I've been eyeing this place for months now and even added to my book marks … ah the thought of a good clam bake, crab legs, shrimp .. mmmm
BUT every time I would walk by .. the place simply didn't appeal enough to invite me in (and may be a few of those not so good reviews helped in keeping me away) … WELL, tonight was the night when I decided to brave it and try it – my friend and I were really in the mood for good seafood – bad, bad idea.
We walked into a half empty restaurant – first red flag. We were asked if we had a reservation (hmm only 4 tables were occupied) and were seated promptly. Three different waiters approached us about our drinks – though I asked for a minute after the first one. We were told that they have a full bar and so my friend asked for Pena Colada and was told sorry, can't make it. I then asked about their selection of beers on tap – the response was "I'm not really a beer drinker" oookkkkk so while she was getting me a taste of one I haven't tried before, a second waiter came up and appeared a bit more knowledgable about beer. I asked for a "not so hoppy" beer and was told that the one I'm about to try – Six Point – is the hoppiest as a matter of fact. I tried nonetheless and immediately wondered if the guy had any idea what the beer tasted like or what "hoppy" means. In any case, I went with a Sam Adams – always a safe choice. We browsed the large selection of seafood and went with a Crab Royale and since the dish has no shrimp and it appears you can't add them, we got a Louisiana Style Peel and Eat Shrimp as an appetizer. I also wanted a soup and soup of the day (shrimp bisque) was HIGHLY recommended as it is "so good and so fresh".
The soup arrived … eh what can I say, could use a bit more substance and a bit less salt (or MSG but who's counting). The waiter then came up (for the millionth time … ) to tell us (this time) that our order will be delayed as there was an issue with the computer blah blah .. that was fine .. we then get a bucket – progress, meaning the food is coming; and FINALLY … the food arrives 🙂 yey! the long awaited moment! CRAB … for $38.99 I think I could at least get crab that's not on a diet … quite literally, my crab were on a freaking diet as there was barely ANY meat in there!! The waiter came up (yet again) and I expressed my concern for the anorexic crab. He said "I'm sorry, can I do something else for you" – let me just say, what a loaded question lol. He goes to speak to the .. I don't know, manager, owner, no idea who the guy is. He comes back and says "I'm sorry my hands are tied." Oh well, what are you going to do . The waiter does get a star – he tried…
Overall, the food – completely not worth the price, the atmosphere – cold and unfriendly, the service staff – um … well, he tried I guess.
I guess it's a check mark on my last – been there, done that, will never return and will recommend against … customer service? heh what customer service :)))
I dont understand why this place has average rating of three stars because this place is pretty good.
The food is excellent with just the right amount of seasoning and the people who work here are all amazing! And the ones who I thought weren't amazing I no longer see them on staff. Lets not forget the owner, Friendly face who greets you at the door and makes you feel welcomed in his establishment.
Food: My go to fav when I come here are for the crab and shrimp nachos. These nachos have fresh crab on it and are amazeballs. Writing this review now makes me wish I had some sitting right next to me.
Ambiance: 8/10
Lastly, he doesn't kick you out when the restaurant is ready to close!
Got turn around in my destination. , literally stumbled onto this place. Very cozy well decor location. Love the brick walls, airbrush paintings throughout the restaurant. Enjoy Seafood combo for two. Loved the Pom Bom Bellini and sangria.
I came. I saw. I chowed down!
My friends and I do a monthly "Girls Night Out" & the restaurant of choice this month was The Crab Spot. From the moment we decided on this place, my craving for crabs grew unbearable.
When we arrived, the host asked if we had a reservation. I didn't see it listed anywhere that a reservation was necessary so that made me a bit nervous, but we were seated promptly without incident.
My drink wasn't very strong, but it was good nevertheless. Our food came out promptly and our waiter was delightful. The prices really weren't that bad. 2 mixed crab pots, a steak dinner & 6 drinks and our bill was about $115.
Convenient location.
Cash & credit.
I'll definitely be back.
The snow crab, Alaskan king crab and Dungeness crab combo was delicious! Take the waitress' advice and have it with garlic and old bay spice which really knocks it out if the park! Grilled hanger steak can be shared and is a good counterbalance to the light crab fest in a pot. Try the crabmeat stuffed mushroom starter. The only thing better than this meal is having someone who is willing and able to get all the crabmeat out for you!
I found this spot on my way to Scottadito which is right across the street. I thought a Crab spot in BK?! For brunch no less?! Unlimited Mimosa and Bloody Mary's you say? Sign me up.
I went for brunch and came back for dinner.
The brunch was delicious and portions were huge. I tried the sailor's plate. The Bloody Mary's were MD style with Old bay rimming the glass.
I had the fresh blue point oysters both times.
They had a all you can eat crab night advertised… More investigation is needed but, I'd definitely do this spot for brunch and/or dinner again.
Ps. Our server, bartender and the owner are awesome. 🙂
The Hubs and I came here for our first date of the New Year and had a fantastic time.
The seafood is plentiful and fresh and well seasoned. The menu offers good value. We ordered the Captain's Dinner for two and it was almost too much food! Which is a difficult threshold to meet with us – we like to eat 🙂
Also the service was great – very attentive without being smothering. The waiter made good suggestions about the menu. And the playlist was so much fun – classic 90s R&B with a little Barry White thrown in. The place was jamming and we went home with full bellies and happy hearts.
This is a great place to come on a date you don't mind eating messy with, or with your family. Not good for vegetarians. And we didn't try the rest of the menu, which offered a lot of options, so my appreciation of the seafood and cooking is based solely on the ginormous and plentiful platter for two we shared. If your get it, order with garlic, olive oil and old bay. That sauce was so good I wanted to lick the plate.
Poor mom. Dad had passed the torch for our New Year's feast to her, and after years of cooking, she was tired. Unfortunately, passing the torch to her Americanized daughters for a meal of traditional Chinese New Year's foods guaranteed an inedible meal worthy of survival class. On oldest sis's recommendation, we headed to Crab Spot to fill the void and our bellies. A seafood bounty we had indeed. Mom and sis shared the Captain's Platter, an enormous pile of lobster, shrimp, mussels(in their little bowl of white wine garlicky sauce), king crab, and sides of super sweet corn, garlic bread, and potatoes, on a plate that almost stretched from one end of our table to the other. Sis had the Queen Crab pot, the claws of that crustacean contained in a net with her corn and potatoes on the bottom of the pot. Both dishes were made with sauces to taste–garlic, olive oil or bay seasoning or all three. With blind faith on a Yelper's tip, I chose the shrimp trio, a huge plate of breaded, grilled and stuffed shrimp. You don't get cheap food here, but you get sated for your money. All nine of my large shrimp were perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, not too salty. I ate them all with relish, deciding not to waste any time debating which style was tastiest. My veggie side of carrots, string beans and broccoli was less impressive, but was devoured also. The mash potatoes that came with the dish were creamy and fluffy, but I was wished it had been flavored with garlic. It was a minor point since I was too full to finish it. Sisters and mom enjoyed their dishes tremendously, though all did say some pieces of the crab claws weren't as fresh as the others. Sis explained that very fresh crab claws cracked when you snapped them and some of hers didn't. They gave their dishes 3 stars because they all said the crab wasn't super fresh. Mine was a definite 4, the sides bringing down the rating slightly. I thought they could do better with their bay seasoned biscuits, which tasted microwaved or over toasted to me.
The place is huge, with three large TV screens and a bar at one side. The Super Bowl was on the screen but thankfully, not the noise. With the dark wood and the barrel vault passage as you enter, the place has a masculine feel, punctuated by playful seafood decorations that lighten the mood. Crab Spot has many tables and booths against the wall on the opposite side. Note that the booths seem large until you sit in them. None of us were huge, but we seemed to be very close to the table when we sat. Pot bellied and burly folk, take note that you might prefer to sit at the tables. Service was welcoming and sweet, earning their higher tip and a solid 4 stars for Crab Spot.
