Hey, it's not the best spot for bagels in the world, but it's open 24 hours a day, the service is friendly and efficient, and for the area it's damned cheap. I think if they simply upgraded some of their ingredients their food would be so much better. Their meats seem cheap as do their cheeses. But, this might mess up their pricing. I work in the area and I come often. If you're looking for a decent bite in the morning or a late night snack Bagelsmith will hit the spot.
The bagels here are verrrry good! Decent size, nice and plush with a large variety. They just started making blueberry bagels too! The different flavored cream cheeses are really good as well. I like that they let you add avocado to your sandwich. It's not necessarily the cheapest place, but the food is really good. 1 Bagel with lox, cream cheese, red onion, and avocado with a large coffee costs about $15. They make great ice coffee and have soy milk for the non-dairy drinkers. Kinda sad they don't have almond milk or flavored creamers, but it's all good! Be prepared to stand in line, but the line moves quick. It's usually the same lady working the register and she's quite rude, so don't take it personally. Her tone, occasional chomping on ice cubes while talking to you, and mannerisms scream "I hate my job." Highly recommend this place tho!
I had the whole wheat everything with apple cinnamon cream cheese. It was good, but it wasn't mind blowing. My standards for bagels are pretty intense as I am a firm believer that Best Bagel on 35th btwn 7th & 8th is the best damn bagel in NYC. So any other bagel I decide to indulge on, needs to hold up to the standards of Best Bagel. Unfortunately, Bagelsmith did not. Yes, it's open 24 hours and that's convenient. It was just a normal bagel experience for me. My mouth wasn't watering for another Bagelsmith experience.
Coming from Michigan, this place was my first real New York bagel and it was absolutely amazing. I had the everything bagel with tomato basil cream cheese. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any combination of bagel-cream cheese here. For those who are lactose or vegan, they also have tofu spread options. My friend opted for a tofu spread and it was surprisingly very good. Combine the bagel with a cup of coffee from a local coffee shop around the area and you've got the best quick breakfast. As a note, they're VERY generous with the cream cheese spreads so it might get a little messy.
However, service wasn't the greatest. At the time, the place was jam-packed but the individual taking orders was incredibly impatient and would roll his eyes if people didn't hear his "NEXTT". Definitely did not seem like he wanted to be there. Thankfully interactions with him were for 10 seconds so I present the four stars for everything else.
Ugh – bagel spot on prime bedford that is open 24 hours?! sounds like a dream come true.
Unfortunately, it errs more on the side of a nightmare for the celiac crowd.
I know, I know, I should have known that going into a spot called Bagelsmith would be a mistake, but I thought I would pop in to see what options – if any – they have to please this gluten free palate.
Immediately, I noticed the bagel and sandwich heavy menu (not shocking), but I thought I would ask about options just in case. Unfortunately the response I got was a pretty rude "nothing" when I asked about gluten free recommendations. While I don't expect every place on the block to jump at overpriced bread or bagel replacements, I think there may have been some other options (eggs? fruit?), but after that not so friendly response I headed on out.
Not sure I will be giving Bagelsmith another try anytime soon.
The bagels were alright here and they had so many cream cheese options… But I thought Peter Pan did a way better ham and cheese breakfast bagel sandwich than Bagelsmith. Cream cheese is a must here for a boost in flavor, that may have been my mistake. I got regular cheese and the ham was ice cold so that threw everything off. This was also the only place I ordered food in NY where everything felt incredibly rushed and the employee's annoyed. I get it, this is a before work stop but it's not my problem you hate your job. I might come back to try something different but so far there are better bagel stops.
Of all the bagel joints in all the city this one right here has to have one of the doughiest bagels around. Plumped up with all kinds of chewy goodness – I liked my $1 Bagelsmith egg bagel a lot. Yum!
