Very solid pizza parlor in Edgewater, NJ. I have gone in for slices, which are large with thin dough, and a sandwich, which was filling. The Grandma's slice has a very hearty sauce and is very garlicky (YUM!). The proprietor is very nice.
Parking is a bit of a pain on this street, as the lot spaces are almost always taken. The place is tiny but charming.
I really wanted to like this place. My parents have gone here a couple of times and had the plain cheese pizza and seemed to think it was decent. I read the reviews and ordered the grandmas pie some here praised. I was immediately disappointed upon receiving the pizza – the smell of burnt cheese and tart tomatoes hit me first. The taste was as bad. I may try the plain cheese pizza in the future but the memory of this pie has to fade.
I order quite frequently from this Jersey pizza joint.
I see it's currently rated at 3.5 stars which I'd say is quite accurate. Standard, solid, NY-style pizza. Nothing to complain about. Good, solid taste.
In my experience, the people who work there are always friendly and quick to deliver (have read some negative reviews about delivery problems and I've probably ordered a half-dozen times and never had a single problem — and my place is quite difficult to find) but I'd honestly rate it at 3.5. Nothing exceptional about it but nothing, at all, bad about it either. Good, solid, NY-style pizza.
I would reccomend using this place for delivery, not for a sit down meal to enjoy.
The prices are great—cheap and they have a decent selection of things to choose from and even daily and lunch specials.
However, i was a bit turned off the first time i was here. I ordered a Hawaiin slice, because in their description it says pineapple, ham and two different cheeses. I asked for the hawaiin slice minus the ham—i basically got a cheese slice that was hot and cold pineapple chunks on it. But wait…theres more..i also ordered a penne vodka slice. what did i get? a plain cheese slice with some plain penne on top, with cold gravy and a few sprinkles of shreded mozzeralla. I specifically asked if i can order the hawaiin without ham (this sounds crazy but i like pineapple and liked that there would be 2 diff cheeses on it besides just reg mozzeralla), she said yes. I also asked if there were penne vodka slices available because in the menu it only had prices for a pie. She said yes. After i ordered with her, i heard the older woman loudly say, "who ordered a hawaiin slice? we cant do that!" and then another comment about how they cant do the penne vodka that they dont have penne vodka made!
I may be overacting to some people, but the fact that i was told YES they can do both–then i heard how rude this woman was loudly yelling outloud around customers about this seemed unprofessional. And the fact they gave me the two slices which were not what were in the desription really pissed me off. If you dont have penne vodka made–tell me, if you say you only do hawaiin pies and not slices–tell me. dont tell me yes then make me pay and then try to pull a fast one on me with half assed slices.
