Colson Patisserie

“They even have a financier cookie in the shape of a bear, dressed up with little chocolate dollops as buttons (and face, and other bear details).”

“They also serve hot breakfast and lunch, too, and have a bathroom that's clean and user-friendly.”

“My "custom" Cappuccino is always good, the guys are making a very good "creamy foam", just the toasting of the coffee a bit bitter maybe but it might be my taste.”

  1. The only reason I know about Colson is because of Ends Meat in Industry City (Colson is one of their meat club CSA pickup locations). Been here a couple of times, and had coffee to go with my meat. They make a good cappuccino, but what you really want to come here for is the pastries. They're all so pretty (and not cheap). They also do sandwiches and have fresh bread. Definitely a good neighborhood spot to sit a while and enjoy a meal. Staff is super cool too.

  2. Their almond croissant was absolutely amazing! The croissant was a bit overburnt but the butterfulness made up for it! The almond paste was a good consistency and not overly sweet. I'd make the trek back to Park Slope, Brooklyn any day!

  3. Delicious bakery and coffee place. You will be served by frenchies who barely understand what you order but who cares. Their almond croissants and fruit pastries are incredibly tasty.
It is usually pretty packed, and they clearly don't run to serve customers, so if you are in a rush to get a coffee I suggest you don't stop here. This is a place where enjoy a quality time and quality food morning, or afternoon.

  4. Tried the pain au chocolat finally, which was nice. But my preference goes to the chocolate and little cream pastry, it's smaller but more tasty to me.
It would be great to have the pastries warm so we could better enjoy the filling and have creamy chocolate…In Italy some very good patisseries have a warmed up base (I think with hot water) and this makes the pastries stay warm.
My "custom" Cappuccino is always good, the guys are making a very good "creamy foam", just the toasting of the coffee a bit bitter maybe but it might be my taste. Overall  I like it and this is a place I like to go for breakfast whenever I can, it's just a few blocks from my home.

  5. This place is great! It's like entering a Parisian cafe in Brooklyn. The coffees are made wonderfully with high quality beans, the hot chocolate is EXCELLENT, the pastries are tasty, and the sandwiches they have are quite good. There is minimal seating and not a huge selection for sandwiches. If you're going there, you're going to get pastry and coffee. Go do that!

  6. Colson is one of the top patisseries in Park Slope. If I lived closeby, I certainly would be here all the time and gain too much weight, unable to control myself with all this goodness.  I initially came here a few years ago when I purchased a groupon, which allowed us to pretty much sample and buy most of the pastries. They were all equally delicious, although the apple turnover stood out. The croissants are also a favorite of mine.

What I like about Colson is that not only do they serve pastries and coffee/tea, but they offer a variety of salads and sandwiches. I ordered the quinoa salad, which comprised of black quinoa, feta cheese, basil and grilled vegetables. Super yummy and generous portions!

  7. Is it OK to put on a Yelp review "The iced coffee here is so good, it made me shart my pants, 5 stars?" Asking for a friend.

  8. I feel bad because I would really like to rate a better review, but I just can't bring myself to do that with the quality we experienced. Came here to meet with a friend for a small snack before meeting her husband for dinner. It was a misty rain Friday night
and we met up around 5ish. We each ordered a drink and a pastry – friend ordered some kind of latte and pear pastry and I got a hot chocolate and the spinach and feta pastry.

The pastries were ok, but probably would've been better warmed. The drinks might have been good, but they were too watered down to really taste anything. We felt bad and didn't want to complain so we sipped our watery drinks until we left to meet with her husband. I'm guessing if we had notified someone of our watery drinks, they could've fixed the problem, but we felt it was more trouble than it was worth.

The place is cute with 4-5 table that seat about 2-3 people depending on how you sit. The guy behind the counter was nice, but the overall experience was did not make this a place I needed to visit again.

There's a chance I would go back, but it's not on my list of places to go, sorry.
