Asian Terrace is a new addition to the Bay Terrace shopping center in Bayside, Queens. My friend and I came across this restaurant a couple of weeks ago and decided to check it out. I'm usually not a fan of Asian fusion restaurants, only because having a mix of different Asian cuisines in my mind means they don't make one cuisine spectacularly, but I must say Asian Terrace impressed me enough to give it 4 stars.
First off, the decor is pretty nice inside. The space is quite large and has upstairs seating, which I didn't get to check out. There's also a bright centerpiece in the restaurant that immediately attracts attention because of the water that flows down around it. Finally, there's a relatively large sushi bar in the back that takes up the width of the restaurant.
Next, the food was surprisingly good. Between me and my friend, we had the chef special House roll, a regular salmon roll and the Fire Wok. The House roll was delicious; anything with shrimp tempura and spicy tuna deserves an A+ in my book. Being someone that doesn't like raw fish, I had a salmon roll for the first time, and it wasn't bad. I thought the raw salmon would have a stronger taste, but it was surprisingly light. (I still won't go out of my way to order it, though, just because of my preferences.) The Fire Wok was the best dish. The portion size was good enough for two people to finish after having already had two sets of maki rolls, and it came with a variety of seafood, including a generous amount of lobster tail. Although we only got one bowl of rice to share between the two of us, we still made do and cleaned out the plate, along with the curry sauce.
The only thing I'd really improve is the service, which was decent but not awesome. The restaurant was not busy, probably because it just opened and not many people know about it yet, but we had to ask our waiter for our water refills every so often. But the server took the time to answer our questions about the menu and in the end still deserves a 4 out of 5 stars. I'll be back to try other items on the menu.
This place is consistent in terms of quality of food. The atmosphere is a bit odd as the host looks more like he stepped of the the set of Good Fellas and the peculiar rainbow colored fountain does not mesh with the Asian themed restaurant. Nonetheless this place delivers when it comes to flavorful dishes and since I order takeout weekly I can vouch for it. Four stars only because it's not a cool place just a place to go for good food.
Gave two stars for great service.
Sighs I'm hugeeeee on service and this place has it but unfortunately the food is HORRIBLE. I really hoped this place had the whole package but it didn't.
The drinks were amazing and so was the rice but the food is fried and disgusting. Too much oil and how/why did they fry my BROCCOLI??!! I think I'm sick. Our plates are still full. Very disappointing. I read the reviews AFTER we got the bill. Big mistake
Just had a very nice late lunch date with the hubby here. We came here after dropping our daughter off at Mud Genius for a drop off birthday party. Loved the place immediately upon entering. I saw a nice bar area to to my left and Sangria in a large see through container. The restaurant has dim lighting and is very spacious with comfortable chairs and booths. There is a sign that states to wait to be seated. The waiter approached us and asked if we would like a booth in the corner. I love sitting in corners so this was great!
They have a very extensive looking drink menu and the lychee martini looked tempting but I opted for green tea instead. Me and husband both ordered the sushi regular which comes with a miso soup or salad and your choice of tuna roll, spicy tuna roll or California roll. We both ordered miso soups with our sushi regular. I opted for a spicy tuna roll and my husband wanted a regular tuna roll. He stated tuna roll to the waiter after I had ordered my spicy tuna roll. However there was miscommunication because when the sushi came out there were two spicy tuna rolls in lieu of one regular tuna roll and one spicy tuna roll. My husband said he didn't mind though. I told him to rephrase it next time and to say REGULAR tuna roll so the waiter does not think we want the same thing. We also ordered a spicy salmon roll on the side to share and that was pretty good. I wasn't too ecstatic about my tuna sushi in my sushi regular. I thought one of the pieces tasted a tad fishy but then again tuna is not my favorite.
I overheard the waiter telling a group of people at a table nearby that they also had cappuccino. I thought that was great but I wouldn't order that after sushi. The menu also had Chinese food as a choice as well. I liked that our waiter asked us if we wanted to see the dessert menu afterwards. We were quite full from our meal so we didn't order dessert. This is a very elegant looking restaurant and there is lounge seating with pillows in the front.
Asian Terrace, you little Gem YOU! This place brings joy to my heart while it tap dances on my palate. The food here is really good. Fresh Sushi is definitely a MUST!
I took my friend out for lunch after work. We started with apps. We had a Spicy Kani Salad & Fried Calamari. I'm pretty basic when it comes to Sushi.
I ordered my go-to dish, the 2 rolls lunch special. I had a California Roll & a Shrimp Tempura Roll (no Tobiko) with extra Eel sauce on the side. My lunch special came with Miso Soup & a Ginger Salad. She had the Miso & I took the Ginger Salad. I know you're thinking, "Wow that's a lot of ruffage." Why yes, yes it was & it was DELISH! I also ordered a Mango Mojito that was to die for.
My friend ordered Sashimi. She's a regular here so the Chef created something special for her. He made her a dish called Aji. Although I am petrified of trying uncooked fish, I did & it was pretty good.
To top it off the Chef gave us Tiramisu on the house! He won my heart!!
If you're in the area stop by & ask for Chef Johnny. He's super talented & funny. Also sit at the Sushi Bar to get the full experience. He's off Mondays & works half a day on Tuesdays.
This restaurant is tucked away in the corner of the Bay Terrace shopping center next to Ben's Best Kosher Deli. It claims to serve Asian fusion cuisine but the majority of the menu is Japanese and sushi items.
The sushi rolls were average at best although portions were generous. The sushi rolls were fairly bland and much of the taste was covered up by the various sauces (eel sauce, spicy mayo, etc.) The eggplant appetizer was good but i wished they would cut it into edible bit size portions. The service was decent and the decor was really weird (it looked like what white people think a Chinese restaurant should look like in the 1990's) but the main reason that I didn't really enjoy eating here was the food. They can do better and with a lot of other similar restaurants not far away, its hard to want to come back.
