River Grille

“They have a dining area that has a few tables as well (also some high tables located around the bar).”

“If you remember Towne Tavern as a place where you could drink PBR and get too rowdy, you might want to reintroduce yourself to the River Grille.”

“They were hot, had a great crunch on the outside, and still had the fluffy potato texture on the inside.”

  1. A large crowd gathered here for a Wednesday night happy hour/dinner hour. Several families showed up and parents with kids occupied the small dining area oblivious to the sometime raucous bar crowd. All signs pointed to a tasty meal, except it wasn't. The shrimp scallop ceviche was generously portioned and had adequate chips but it missed lime wedges and sufficient citrus. The full rack of St. Louis ribs were a disappointment. Served slathered in terrible sauce, the rack was very full of sinew and was dull as dishwater. Even the coleslaw was bland. The sweet potato fries were a tasty compliment but at that point the meal had already been lost. The service was nice, but at these prices, with pub level noise, it's hard to recommend this place for dinner.

  2. Awesome spot that is NOT what it seems to be from the outside.

I swung by with my wife this past weekend after reading all the positive reviews for it, and we expected a solid joint. R.G. didn't disappoint at all. Parking wasn't a big issue – now granted, we got there for bar bite and drink around 6, parking was still pretty tight. You need to go in the back and hopefully, get a spot. If you can't, I don't know where you'd park?

River Grille is a really cool spot inside – a nice, big bar with a bunch of high-tables if you wanna get more comfy and watch one of the bunch of huge TV's. They have some solid beers on tap (my wife was blown away by PBR on tap), but I was happy they had the Lagunitas IPA.

The food was also solid – we split the buffalo chicken dip and a bar pie. They were both great, and appropriately priced. The staff was extremely nice, and relatively quick for service. On a busier time, you probably will struggle to get stuff in a timely manner if you're at a table.

I definitely recommend swinging by R.G. to check it out – it has definitely become a place we'll frequent for a solid drink and quick meal!

  3. Industrial-park roadhouse with 16+2 taps, big bar, tiny dining room, a dozen TVs, food that's miles above pub grub, fast brusque service, fair prices and (unfortunately) factory-grade sound levels.  So you'll eat and drink very well at the River Grille, maybe watch 7 games simultaneously lol, but adult conversation is physically impossible. What?  Is this a dive bar?  Can you hear me?  No it's not a dive bar. What??

Right, what's on tap, this is important — and what's that plus 2  :).  The 16 beer taps included industrial cheap beers like Coors light, Corona light, PBR and Yuengling; macro brews Stella, Guinness and Blue Moon; also craft IPAs Carton 077XX, Dogfish Head 60 minute, Founder's and Lagunitas.  Plus+ 2 bonus taps, one with mojitos, how often do you see that, another pouring hard lemonade.  Unfortunately our (very punk and not very young) server didn't know her beers so we kinda ordered randomly.

We succumbed to the power of Yelp suggestions and ordered the mac-n-cheese app.    That $11 big ramekin was far meatier than I expected cos loaded with ham and such, and much less cheesy.  Definitely stuffed with mushrooms so if you're not a 'shroom fan you might not enjoy.  Arrived with an excellent crust from the oven but dude, this is a meal in itself — if you get this app alone you're done.

Also tried the potato skins – deeply charred outsides were a turn off at first, then I started to appreciate the flavor, quantity of potato and proper texture – so I recommend. Altho at $9 for 3 big skins it's awkward to split among 4 people yet somehow we managed.

Those app prices sound scary, right? But pints were only $6 or $7; a cheddar burger was $12 and sammiches were about $15, that seemed very reasonable.  So $$ (two dollars) is about right, yet you can blow $25 plus on an entree if you like and cross into $$$ territory if you're thirsty.

Don't miss the fries here, they're the battered Belgian-style potato kind, fried perfectly and nicely salted, plus a sprinkle of some herbs on top, highly recommend.

Vegetarian rating: 1.5 stars bcos the choices are so limited: apps like quesadillas; several salads; only entree is a veggie burger; some sides like the fries might let you cobble together a meal. Too bad, I bet this chef could really rock the veg with one hand behind his back.

Has a few tables out front.  That seems like the best option – good beer, great food, only the volume of trucks going past — a lot quieter than inside haha.

Mostly street parking, but all the supply places in this industrial park are closed in the evening so it wasn't really a hassle.

  4. Good eats. Saw the reviews and was wondering if it would be a "dive bar". Dive maybe only because of being in the area of summit. I loved it.

Good people, super attentive wait staff, and good food. My wife had the strawberry something salad and it was super fresh and huge. Great salad especially for a "dive bar".

I had the sliders which were delicious. Fries were crispy and seemed to almost be breaded.

Yeah it's loud but it's a bar. Come on people.

We will be back, next time I'm getting the wings. They sounded delicious.

    Give it a look.

  5. We ate here on Friday. Came for an early dinner. Impossible to get a spot at the bar during happy hour, so we ate at a bar table. Decor is more like a dive bar, but the food is eclectic.

My bf ordered a burger, which was perfectly cooked and amazing. The fries are yummy and very crisp.

I had the pulled chicken tacos with homemade tortilla shells with lots of fresh tomatoes and lettuce, as well as salsa, quacamole, and sour cream. Very good and very fresh.

Nice beer and wine selection. Good service. Can't wait to try other food options.

  6. Solid place!  I recall it as a dive bar years ago (yes, back when upscale Chatham still could support one-anyone older than 15 could get served), but the new owners have totally redone it.  Our waitress told me one of the owners is the chef, and it shows.  A good test is simple food, and my burger was perfectly cooked rare, the bacon strips crispy and in a lattice on top of the patty, and the other condiments fresh and tasty.  We had errands to run, so we didn't try any of the craft beers-but the unsweetened iced tea was the best I've ever had, including what I make myself.  Our waitress was terrific, lots of off street parking-and a rooster outside within earshot from a neighbors coop.  While it wasn't cheap at $14.95, it came with a big pile of excellent fresh cut fries, and at 10oz I saved half the burger for dinner so it made almost two meals.

  7. Love this place for a local higher end dive in Chatham.  Went there on A friday evening with some friends and had a good time.  Love the beer on tap and the bartenders are great.  I think the food in general is pretty good, although portions are too big (which for some people is a good thing).  This time I got the Chicken lettuce wrap and unfortunately I wasn't a Fan of those.  The ratio of chicken to the rest of the ingredients was off and the chicken was dry and didn't taste great.  Was average at best.

Howevever the ambience more than made up for it.  Also a band came out at 11pm and rocked the house.  For me that was a good time to come on because was able to have plenty of time to catch up with my friends before they showed up.

I have had the wings, Fries, veggie burgers there.  All are solid, but nothing I would call exceptional.

  8. We went to the River Grille on a local friend's recommendation. The vibe is "dive bar" when you walk in but the friendly wait staff and the corporate Friday casual dress of the fellow diners put that to rest. I was urged to try the lobster / crab bisque and wow, I'm so glad I was! Not the most dietetic of soups but who the heck cares? I suppose they could offer a discount coupon for an angioplasty with every fifth bowl but once you try it, you won't care. I then ordered the shrimp Po Boy. Great crispy bread (weak bread will destroy any sandwich) and killer spicy fries mark the dish. The filling, while tasty and filled with fresh goodness didn't have quite enough shrimp for this glutton. I brought half of the sandwich home (that bisque really filled me up) and let my fussy wife taste it. She called it delish and I suspect we're headed back for a date real soon.

My fellow diners – two foodie friends – had the crab cake over risotto. It's billed as an appetizer but it proved enough of a meal with the bisque for them. I snagged a taste from one of their plates and after one bite, I smiled… a lot.

The room, packed with long-lunch Friday diners, was really loud and the non-stop TV screens showing martial arts fighters beating the snot out of each other reinforced the dive bar vibe. However, don't be fooled, this is a friendly place with great food. I feel it's not a good first date spot but third or fourth date? Maybe if the first few went well and you're trying to show your inner bad boy/girl. Plus, you won't have to get a tattoo to rock that meme.

They have a private parking lot and an active, full service bar – important insider facts.

Really good food, dive-ee atmosphere but super safe, even for a computer nerd (c'est moi) and prices reflect good value. It's out of the way enough to make you seem really cool – factor that in.
