I almost missed this place as this neighborhood is currently running construction and roads were blocked. Fortunately I managed to detour and discovered this hidden gem.
Warehouse cafe was empty at the time I got there – probably too early. However owner was very friendly and we chatted nicely. Got the Americano with skimmed milk – taste great!
Can easily tell the owner really loves dog based on the wifi password. (dogpower)
Great little café with hipster/industrial decor and vibe, eclectic artwork, and small but pleasant outdoor seating. Pressed sandwiches here are the specialty. We had the jamon, with ham (duh), gruyere cheese, and strawberry preserves, a good blend of flavors and well-balanced at that. Also had the meatloaf sandwich, tasty and likable, but meatloaf has never been a huge fave. Coffee is good quality, from Intelligentsia, and there are no juices, although there is an orange flavored Italian soda. Service is cool and efficient, but not especially speedy. A plus: LGBTQ equality and Very Black stickers are both on the door. We like inclusive spots and will be back.
Fun place to chill and hang out in JC. Not only do they have a great coffee/tea menu, but they have a pretty expansive lunch/snack menu as well. Their baked goods also come straight from Balthazar bakery. Almond Croissant FTW.
The vibe of this place is super hipster… I mean IT IS a warehouse space converted into a coffee shop. There is so much to look at.. from art hanging from the ceilings to all sorts of knick knacks sitting on the shelves.
Overall its a really chill, non-stuffy, super relaxed space to enjoy a cup of coffee and/or an occasional almond croissant. Their avocado toast looks divine and will probably try that next time I make a trip.
We got two pressed sandwiches for the road. So I can't voiuch for decor or service other than two really good sandwiches to go. The bread is wonderful and they were just enough for lunch. I would definitely go back again to sit and stay. (sounds like a dog command)
My friend who used to live in JC and then moved to Brooklyn first introduced me to this place. She still came over occasionally all the way to from Brooklyn to come to this place. We stopped by in the morning before a hiking trip for some hot drinks and granola. I came later by myself just to try their interesting sandwiches.
So far I tried the the jamon (smoked ham, aged cheddar cheese, strawberry preserves) and then avocado (hass avocado, pecorino romano, cayenne). I thought the strawberry preserves would be weird with the ham, but I couldn't taste it at all. They didn't put enough, only a tiny thin spread so the saltiness of the cheese and ham overpowered the preserves. The sandwich was crispy and hot, but I think kind of small for $9.
I loved the avocado toast. The spread of avocado is thick and the cayenne and pecorino are a nice touch. It's probably something you can make at home, but then you don't get the nice feeling of sitting in a cafe.
They have free wifi and I often see people there doing work or reading. I really like their setup of benches and tables outside. It gives such a peaceful feeling. Will try to stop by on my way to Shop Rite whenever I can to get a sandwich.
Decided to try this place instead of the normal Starbucks, since it was a local Jersey City spot and was well reviewed on Yelp.
It was one of those industrial hipster spots with intelligentsia coffee. Latte came out fast but waited for my avocado panini for almost 10 minutes! I mean, Starbucks is what it is but it's consistent. I ordered this to go!
Overall okay place but I'd rather have my quick coffee and wrap for under 10 bucks!
This is a go to spot to chat with your friends while enjoying the outdoors. Also, a place where you can sit down and read while enjoying their delicious, inexpensive drinks and food. They also provide free wifi, which is a huge plus.
This place is my jam for some smooth and simple coffee (bonus points for being organic) and getting some work done. I'm impartial to the weird art and warehouse feeling but it may inspire others.
Located in the "Powerhouse Arts District", or right off of Marin Blvd on the corner of Bay Street for others, this little coffee shop and sandwich shop serves up some great organic coffee (a few varieties), as well as your normal coffee shop options (espresso, lattes etc.). They also have a few baked options (cookies etc.) and sandwiches, both of which I'll try in the near future.
DEFINITELY a better option than the Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts around the area, and at $2.50 for a small organic coffee, you can't beat it.
