  1. Wow, I just finished wolfing down a 1/2 #4 Spicy Italian from these guys and gotta say, these guys know how to make sub!  It was so good that I could have probably stopped eating half way through, but couldn't stop myself and ended up polishing the whole thing off.  At this moment I feel the need to close my office door and take a nap, lol.  Onto the details….

Very clean, the location is a tiny shop right on Franklin Ave in Nutley (the main street of downtown basically if you aren't familiar with the area).  Street parking only as mentioned earlier as a tip so make sure you bring quarters.  No table to eat/sit at, so take out only.

As for the food, wow again!  The sub itself was jam packed with fresh, thinly sliced meat that you can absolutely tell is quality cold cuts (I wish I didn't forget to ask what brand they used here, I'll have to ask the next time).  And when I say jam packed, I mean it, they are not cheap with the portions.  The bread they use is very fresh and of high quality.  Shredded lettuce and thin sliced tomatoes topped off my sub with the right amount of oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, and mayo…

To compliment my sub, I also picked up some of their potato salad, which I gotta say was pretty damn awesome as well!

Last but not least – GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!  Some of the friendliest people behind the counter, if the subs were only halfway decent, I'd come back again just for how nice they are here.  Big plus in my book.

  2. I just wanted a hero sandwich and I got more than what i bargained for. The owner Johnny was really cool and treated us just like family. This place reminds me of the school delis in New York back in the day.

The assortment of sandwiches are awesome and pricing not bad for the amount of meat and freshness of the sandwich. The half sub is about $7.40 and whole sub is $14.50, but its 16 inches (thats a whole lotta sandwich). You can literally split the half sub into another half. I bought the full sub so I could have some for later, which I have resting on my counter at home.

The lettuce is shredded (which is the best), tomatoes sliced thin as well as the cold cuts. The bread is soft and does not cut your gum.

The owner makes his own soda and juice, which was really awesome. He makes a chocolate egg cream, which I have never heard of and let me tell you that soda was soooo good and refreshing. He offered it to us for free to taste as well as the pineapple soda. He was definitely right about how good they are. He even gave bag of chips away as well. He is such a cool dude!!

The place has pics on the wall of alot of cool people, which is cool to look at while you are waiting for your sandwich.

I happen to find this place just from looking at yelp and I am glad I decided to come. You can find them on yelp and facebook. So stop by facebook and show some love to the Hero King!!!

    Thanks Johnny!!

  3. Once you walk in you are greeted immediately with a smile and such awesome service.  First time here….well be prepared for all the wonderful suggestions they offer.  All you see were the funkiest sandwich names that were nicely written on a big gigantic chalkboard.  It's a small place but while you wait for your sandwich to be made….they have tons of autographed celebrity pics to your left to look at and explore other specialty sandwiches they carry for your next visit.  Check out their soda fridge….lots of varieties to choose from which are made by them.  Rae Lyn was nice enough for me to try their chocolate egg cream soda….I honestly thought I wasn't going to like it but she wasn't kidding when she said….if you like chocolate this won't disappoint you and she was on point.

I also ordered the Larry David….hot pastrami  (great amount of meat) with provolone cheese and their special hero king sauce…similar to thousand island dressing but had a nice kick to it.  I ordered a 1/2 and only could eat half of it and ate the rest 4 hours later and it was delicious!!!  Bread was so fresh along with the meat.  It's funny too because my husband went there after I told him I came to finally visit and got the same thing lol.

    So what to know:
    – Street parking only….have quarters for the meters if coming for the day…they don't accept dimes or nickels
    – The famous sandwiches are written in orange on the chalkboard
    – They have their own Hero King soda flavors
    – Bread is soft and so fresh and so good
    – Meats are freshly cut when ordered
    – 3 locations (Nutley, Newark, and Point Pleasant)
    – They are very generous with their meat…I mean very generous
    – Hoboken Sandwich are only on Wednesday and Saturdays which includes roast beef, fresh mutz and gravy

Hero King has great staff.  Rae Lyn, John, and Nick told me how they don't precut the meat when ordered to keep the sandwich fresh which definitely is a true fact.

So happy I found this place because they are up to par when I have a taste for Tastee's in Edison, NJ which is way too far for me to travel….so happy to have found my "Hero King"…..you guys rock and you'll definitely see me around again very soon!!!

  4. Talk about fresh cold cuts and hella good sandwiches! "Johnny salami" is cool is as hell. We came in for two subs and left as family! John is amazing and he has proof to show. While waiting for your sandwiches take a gander at his famous wall. It's fully star studded with pics and autographs.

Onto the establishment. It's bright and crisp inside. There's a a lovely fresh feeling inside.

The subs are amazing. Johnny's menu has about 30 different sandwiches to choose from. Don't like what ya see? He'll custom make a Sammy for ya. Half subs are about $8 and full 16" subs are about $15. These are the best subs mi lady and I had in long time! The cuts are fresh folks. Not pre sliced, not in a package, not sitting waiting like fast food franchise spots! Lemme say it one more time – FRESH CUTS. Amazing.

The store made sodas are dope! Try the Chocolate egg cream. I know I know, who drinks chocolate egg cream soda???? This GUY! It's rich in chocolate flavor, creamy and refreshing. Don't knock it till ya try it. The pineapple soda is another fav!

In final, grab the VIP card before you leave. The 10th Sammy is on Johnny. Become a part of the Hero King y'all and thank me later!

  5. Cute little shop that makes delicious sandwiches and wraps.  Take out only.  They have a nice variety (the only hot sandwich they make is Pastrami, otherwise it's cold subs and wraps).  Hubby got a turkey and provolone on a spinach wrap that he loved.  I got grilled eggplant, fresh mutz, and roasted peppers AKA The Tree Hugger.  Really good and very refreshing and a nice alternative to eggplant parmesan, light and delicious and perfect for a hot day.   They also have sides of pasta and macaroni and potato salad. I love the people working here!  Rae-lynn and Johnny Salami are just two of the super friendly and funny people working here.  They are so nice, full of stories and jokes.  I not only left with lunch but a big smile on my face.

  6. Not bad… It's a tiny little deli a bit pricey but worth it …the wall is covered in pictures of famous people that stopped by …

    .the staff is extremely friendly…

Just wished the location had seats …. By the time I made it home my sandwich was soggy..

Also u get a card for every time u go… Eventually to get a free sandwich…
