As I was stumbling back to my hotel room, I was searching for something to eat to absorb all that alcohol that I had been drinking. Well, Star Gourmet seemed like it was the only thing open at 2am in the morning on 6th Ave. (Avenue of the Americas)
If you are actually thinking that the name (Star Gourmet) has anything to do with this place, you are certainly wrong. It is not "Gourmet." It is just convenient food IF there isn't anything else available. They seem to have lots of food choices though. I ordered the chicken fajita panini. It was not that great. I realized when I ordered it that it was already premade and the person just microwaved it. I know because I saw the person behind the counter pull it out of the refrigerator, and microwave it.
The pizza was also in the back, but it also didn't look too appetizing as though it had been sitting back there for a while. Perhaps these deli's in New York need to be experienced by trial and error.
There is a Russian sandwich I believe it might just be called the Russian. It has roast beef, Russian sauce on it with Swiss cheese. This is the sandwich to get. It was such a find.
The bread was delicious, juicy roast beef and the sauce coated everything is flavor. This was great. Get this sandwich.
