  1. the place smells really good! I got a free salad on my birthday. people behind the salad counter aren't the most patient, and I wish the line moved faster, but the food was quite good and there were plenty of empty seats

  2. I visited this place on last Wednesday night around 8PM. This place supposed to close at 8:30PM. However, after I picked up the items, no one was available at the register except an employee standing in front of the soda machine, playing with his phone, and had his back facing the door. I approached him by asking if I can pay for this. He went back and got the casher, who seemed very upset. I tried to say hi and smile but got a stare in return. Once we reached the register, she was very rude by asking "I need to see what's in the bag" without saying anything else. I tried to show her by moving the bag around by not taking out all items and describe each one of them. However, I wasn't familiar with one of the cookies. My husband helped out by saying "caramel". The casher rolled her eyes and said "CARAMEL? TOFFEE!, which made us looked like we were uneducated. After we paid, she didn't say "thank you" nor "goodbye" but rather had a nasty look on her face like we were owing her something.

I have reported this unfriendly manner on Au Bon Pan's website. However, a few days has past, I received no response.

I wish that there is an option to provide negative stars on Yelp because I don't think they deserve any star.

  3. Got my lunch here and thought it was pretty good. It has a semi cafeteria feel with self serving which is okay if you don't mid that. Hale and hearty soups has the same atmosphere.
Great croissants and really friendly service. I'll come back for sure.

  4. This cafe chain appears to be the average go to lunch stop for locals. I had the chipotle turkey sandwich which I thought was average overall for the price. The ordering line, paying line, and line to wait for your food was quite long, cramped and crowded…not exactly how I enjoy waiting for food. The supervisor taking the orders and calling out for orders up was quite friendly. If youre trying not to break the bank and go fancy, this place would be acceptable in my opinion.

  5. Before, when I thought of ABP[1], I usually think of bad imitation French pastries.

But now, when I think of them, I think of savory soups. Soups for the soul. Their chicken noodle's quite soothing.

Quick in, quick out, and they've got a selection of soups that any soup-aspiring business should be envious of. Except for maybe that soup joint down the street[2]. If you want to sit, there's plenty of seating.

ABP does the job, and they take credit in case you're short on greenbacks.

[1] I doubt that they like being called that. Reminds me of alcohol…
    [2] Er, either one.

  6. The last time I went to an Au Bon Pain was when I spent a while in and out of Elmhurst Hospital. Even then the food wasn't beyond the ordinary. Recently I ordered a smoked salmon wasabi on a bagel. Their portion is pretty small for what it's worth. This place is good for a quick bite to eat, but don't expect a meal like I did. Oh well! Their French vanilla coffee is delicious, though. So I'll come back for that.

  7. I went there for a quick bite for breakfast. They have limited breakfasts that include pastries and oatmeal. It wasn't that busy when I went and was a really nice place to sit. The environment was really pleasant and relaxing. The seating is nice and it is kind of spacious in there. It doesn't feel clustered. The staff is especially polite. And the cinnamon roll which I had was really yummy. BTW their coffee is excellent too. And I am a sucker for good coffee.  Together my bill for a cinnamon roll and large coffee was $5 and change.

  8. I love coming here for breakfast because it's so close to work and they have a variety of breakfast pastries. Their bagels are great and their spinach and cheese croissants. The price is not too expensive either. They also have a variety of soups. If you get coffee often, you should get their plastic mugg for free coffee.
