Great place for bread! My favorite are the olive bread and the prosciutto with mozzarella bread: great with salad or alone! Very friendly service!
I love Antique Bakery — I'll come in here every so often when I want some fresh bread. They are reasonably priced and friendly. My only complaint is that I keep reading about the garlic stuffed bread in yelp reviews, but have yet to try it. Last time I was in, I asked when is the best time to get the garlic bread and to my disappointment, was told they don't make it anymore! Bring back the garlic stuffed bread!
I came by here a long while ago on a quest to find some fresh bread. This is a terrific choice. $2 for a small loaf and $5 for a loaf with meat and cheese baked in. That special loaf was so good I ate half the damn thing on my way home.
However, I do have to mention that I saw a mouse scurry across the back room while I was there. Granted this was a long time ago so I am assumed they took care of the problem by now. Besides, this is Hoboken and those damn things are everywhere.
Unfortunately my Antique Bakery review is only based on my taste of a singular roll, but what a delicious wheat roll it was…I had seen a feature of Antique Bakery on the Food Network and was desperate to try it. I stopped by there one afternoon and picked up a small, round wheat roll. Though it was the end of the day, the roll was still soft. The bread was dense and doughy. It was quite filling and could not be finished in one serving. I relished every bite of the Italian goodness. I cannot wait to go back and try the baguettes and other baked goods.
best bread ever. i get the medium whole wheat round sliced on a weekly basis. crunchy (but not hard) on the outside, fluffy and perfect on the inside. only $3.25.
you gotta eat it fast though! since this is the real deal the bread turns after a few days.
rolls and specialty bread are great, too – service is fast and friendly.
Legit for carb lovers!
Stopped by before an evening dinner in Hoboken since I was intrigued by the various comments on their sausage bread. I was in luck that they have a couple left. I ate it today (the day after), after toasting it for about 5 minutes, it was nice and crusty in the outside and soft and moist in the inside. The sausage has a nice kick and adds a nice flavor throughout the bread. For $5 you get a bread that' almost 20" long. This could be the perfect bread for when we cook our bolognese next time. They are also so nice, it took me a while to decide which bread I should get, sausage vs proschiutto dilemma! Even thought it was almost closing time, they didn't rush me at all. Price listed includes taxes so you don't have to leave with pennies etc!
Not exactly good for my diet, but heck it's the holiday season so I am taking a break from my diet.
A true Hoboken gem.
This little bakery is tucked away, so that only the locals frequent it. There are loaves and loaves stacked on the wooden shelves in the window and an old school bread slicer right when you walk in.
The staff are extremely friendly and will tell you all about the different types of breads. My personal favorites are the ones stuffed with meats and cheeses – yum!!
