I used RCL for a catering event. The price was standard to some of the other establishments I called. It was a next day cater so I was truly pressed for time. What sucks about placing a catering order, they don't accept credit cards over the phone. You have to place your order, come in to pay, then they secure your order. Whack! Run like a normal business.
They have outstanding soulfood. There's sooo much to choose from while you're waiting on that long line you will be changing your mind quite often until its your time to order. Plates run from $9-$15 that comes with 2 sides. The portions are so huge that you will definitely have food for two days with the exception of those greedy people. :-). Ive had the smothered, jerk and brown stew chicken. I've had the ribs, roast pork, mac n cheese, black eye peas, collard greens. I see a lot of people ordering the fish but I dont eat seafood so I cant review. The place is always packed and dont even think about going on Sunday afternoon/evening the lines can be out the door and the wait feels like forever. However, it is so worth it…
Unfortunately, my opinion of this restaurant is not as high as the reviews of others for this restaurant. I visited this restaurant for the first time this August 2012 based on one of my sisters recommendation. On first sight for me the amount of food is overwhelming and reminded me of a soup kitchen-not appetizing in my opinion.
I ordered the fried fish with mac n cheese and collard greens. The best part of my meal was the fish which was fresh and seasoned well. However, I was not impressed with the side dishes because both of them were bland in my opinion. The collard greens had very little taste and was very soupy. The mac n cheese lacked the major component -cheese!! When i got home i had to add my own cheese to make it more edible and i suspect they use food coloring to get the yellow coloring because there was NO cheese to make it yellow.
The portions are very large, which I think draws in most people but lacks in taste.
I have definitely had better soul food at almost any other soul food establishment like taste of seafood in Harlem, Amy Ruth, etc. The only appeal is the sizable portions (which explains why my greedy sisters love this place ) but I prefer taste over quantity any day.
I love going to RCL when I have a craving for some good ole Soul Food. I've been eating here for years and the food is always good.
If you eat here be prepared to wait awhile for your food, because there is always a line.
This is STILL one of my favorite places to get GOOD food at GREAT prices. Is the wait long? Yes but the food is so worth it. Do you ever get tired of waiting on the line? Yes but the food is worth it. I love this place because they give you what you pay for, if a dinner is $13.00, please know that you will have exactly what you are paying for.
A lady stood in front of me on the line and I was undecided about which type of meats to choose from since there are so MANY choices to choose from so she suggested that I try either the oxtails or the jerk reins. She also told me that if I was interested in trying anything that they offer that they will give you a sample.
I was totally surprised so I decided to ask my server if I can try the jerk ribs to see if that's what I wanted and he gave me two not one to sample. Oh my oh my, the jerk ribs were delicious that I immediately fell in love. That sealed the deal so I chose the jerk ribs along with string beans which the lady suggested as well and my all time favorite, the candied yams.
They also offer lunch specials Monday-Friday from 11:30-3:30 for ONLY $7.00.
If you don't mind waiting a bit for some good food, then head over to RCL Enterprises and make your stomach happy. You will not be disappointed at all.
