I've been meaning to check this place out because I've always seen a crowd while driving by!
When I first walked in, I was a lil worried bc the place looked run down. There was no AC and it was a hot ass day. I ordered smothered wings and oxtail to go, both with mac and cheese & collard greens. I was kinda shocked at the prices ($15 ish for dinner platters) but you do get a lot of food. Was very sad panda that they were out of potato salad but I didn't mind bc it means they don't keep tubs of pre-made shit lying around.
First off, they give you about a pound of food. I couldn't believe how heavy the bag was when I got my order! Smothered wings were yummy but the gravy was very heavy on the oil and I got a piece that was literally just fat. Collard greens had a vinegary kick that wasn't too overpowering and I actually enjoyed the mac and cheese. I find that a lot of the times, places serve mac and cheese that is bland (HOW?!). Sadly, my bf did NOT enjoy the oxtails whatsoever. He's a very picky eater and said that it was bland and needs to be cooked longer to break down the muscle tissue. I had a bite and had to agree. It was borderline gritty. We love aggressively seasoned food and this just wasn't our thing.
I wasn't really crazy about the food but the girls at the counter were super sweet and I am a sucker for places with big portions, so I'll probably be back for the fried chicken.
