Butter Lane

“Butter Lane may not be as well known as Magnolia or Crumbs, but it sure produces a more delightful pastry with cleaner, more pure flavors.”

“they were all excellent but my favorite by far was their banana cupcake with cream cheese frosting.”

“I like the strawberry icing, peanut butter, salted caramel, etc. Haven't had any bad cupcakes that's for sure.”

  1. Sugar on sugar, basically.

The shop is small and the staff is extremely attentive and helpful. We opted for a blueberry, green tea, peanut butter and chocolate cupcake.

Esthetically speaking, these cupcakes are beautiful. Unfortunately, they reminded me of a mini Crumbs cupcake. They were just too sweet, both icing and cake.

I was also disappointed to find that there was a lack of flavor in the icing. The blueberry icing tasted like sugar rather than a sweet blueberry jam as I had imagined it to taste like. Same goes for the green tea. I think the only cupcake that turned out OK for my taste buds was the peanut butter aka The Elvis.

On a surprising note, I actually found my cupcakes to be very moist.

Give it a go, if you like super sweet cupcakes.

  2. I'll start this by saying that I'm not normally a sweets kind of girl. I order savory at brunch and almost never order dessert when out for a meal. I will however say that these cupcakes are the TRUTH, probably because they have 900 pounds of butter in them, but hey, it's call Butter Lane for a reason.

When my bestie moved to NYC I was admittedly a little heartbroken, but as we exchanged Christmas gifts back in December knowing that the move was inevitable, we both gifted each other a trip to the others respective city. Obviously I'm not going to limit myself to one visit throughout the year especially after having such a fun weekend hopping and bopping around, Butter Lane's Cupcake 101 class on Sunday pretty much sealed the deal.

It all started with a Living Social deal, $30 for a 2 hour baking class and 6 cupcakes to-go? SIGN ME UP! We arrived right on time and chose to stick with the OG of cupcakes, the vanilla baking station where we were introduced to Dylan, our KitchenAid stand mixer. Not only did Dylan work its little gears off mixing up some delicious batter, our industrial little buddy churned pounds of butter into delicious frostings that we could mix and match with the newly baked cakes from the other two stations in the class as well. From chocolate, banana, and vanilla baby cakes came delicious combinations of confectionery creations with homemade caramel chocolate, cinnamon, raspberry, and other assorted frostings. Talk about a sugar high!

The class was a mix of solo bakers and friends, fathers and daughters, kiddos to mamas and everyone in between. Diana, our heavenly hostess, was a mix of super-smart and scienc-y (teaching the class why you add ingredients when and how they should be combined), funny, and as sweet as the cakes churned out of the convection oven. I would recommend her classes to anyone and already have as my coworkers devoured my extra cupcakes on Monday morning wondering where on earth I obtained such sweet heavenly treats. They were a little floored to know that I had made them!

Even if you can't attend a class, do yourself a favor and stop in for a little cake of goodness; you may even see my mainest of main friends, Aaliyah P.! If you do, tell her I sent ya!

  3. I've been trying to do more fun things with my 11-year-old (instead of constantly lecturing her on EVERYTHING). So when I found out about Butter Lane's cupcake classes, I immediately signed us up.

This class is great. And really, it's great because the instructor Diana is fantastic. Diana is enthusiastic, funny, genuine, and she answered my daughter's incessant questions with patience and kindness (I need to take a lesson).

The process was fun and interactive, and the box of cupcakes we each got to take home were really beautiful.

The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that the class is a bit cramped. I think having a max of 2 people at each station instead of 4 would lend to more hands on experience and less of a claustrophobic feel.

That being said, this was a great bonding experience and I recommend trying it out.

  4. Had a great cupcake experience on our last visit to the city. There are three base cake recipes, vanilla, chocolate, and banana, and you can put any frosting on the menu on any of the three cakes. We all agreed that the banana cake was the best! Favorite cupcake was the Elvis, but honorable mentions were the pistachio and the salted caramel.

  5. The only regret I have with going to Butter Lane is not coming out with a box filled with their amazing cupcakes.

As we walked in, we noticed that there was a class being held. The gentleman, who greeted us, let us know that they are a lot of fun -2 hours for $75.00. It's something to consider for the future!

I had the peanut butter topping on vanilla and my friend had the strawberry topping on vanilla. They were SO delicious -we realized we were about to finish the cupcake without getting a picture in (hence the half-eaten cupcake pic). Def will swing by when I'm in the area…but for a box this time! 🙂

  6. I took the cupcake baking class with my friends here. You're set at a table baking either chocolate/chocolate frosting, vanilla/vanilla frosting, or banana/cream cheese frosting cupcakes. Try to get there early to get dibs on the banana table. You later split the frosting and turn it into another flavor (dulce de leche, raspberry, and cinnamon, respectively). You get to share cupcakes and the frosting towards the end of class to make your own variation; my favorite was the banana cupcake with cinnamon frosting. They also teach you their cupcake-frosting technique. Recipes are provided in your to-go bag as well! This class gave me the push I needed to buy a kitchenaid stand up mixer for myself.

Our instructor was very helpful and knowledgeable! She was also a fellow pokemon go trainer if that matters to you.

I bought the class through vimbly for $35 (originally $45, with $10 referral credit).

  7. Location: close to the other cupcake shop – cupcake market, I made a quick decision that I want to do a cupcake competition between Butter Lane and Cupcake Market.
They are just one blocks away and few steps workout, I came straight into Butter Lane. The front door is very misleading and the sign is not clear enough. I almost felt like i went to the wrong store…

The inside decoration is zero.. very dark, making me felt like I wanna leave this place immediately.
They have plenty cupcakes in the kitchen, I asked for some introductions, and the guy in the front is like.. pick your base, and choose the flavor and we can get it for you…
    alright….

Cupcake: So I went for chocolate base with pistachio on top of it. Their cupcake is so different from Cupcake Market. The frost is soft, soft like …soft.
    Their bases is okay tho.
But compared to market cupcake, I am not very interested in butter lane.
Why… I guess I prefer a solid frosty on top of the base..

And their cupcakes are medium size.

    Service: 0
    price: relatively okay

overall: well, sorry butter lane.. i am no fan of you.

  8. There is no better taste then ending a great meal with some dessert.

Butter Lane Cupcakes is situated in the best part of the village. So many restaurants and places to grab drinks it is no wonder why this place is always a go to spot.

This was my first experience trying a cupcake from Butter Lane so naturally I wanted to play it safe and opted for a traditional chocolate with vanilla. I was hesitant at first because all of the cupcakes looked delicious but at $3.50 a cupcake I knew I only wanted ONE and that ONE had to be the ONE. So after being called "generic" (we all had a good laugh about that one) by the worker I gladly walked off with my chocolate cupcake.

The best cupcake I've ever had! My goodness every bite I took I was in pastry heaven until something awful happened. The last piece of my cupcake fell to the floor. It was heartbreaking! My biggest regret was not going back to the bakery to take some for the road or to get a replacement cupcake.

Whether you are daring and are interested in a cheesecake flavored icing or peanut butter filling or simply "generic" like me any type of cake you get from here is like no other I promise you!
