Not a bad place to run your errands, do some groceries, buy your makeup, and pick up some food to-go. I've been a customer here for many years and it has been one of my favorite places to go when I'm in chinatown. Upstairs is your usual japanese/korean beauty products and cute stationary. Their stationary does seem a bit overpriced but their cosmetics is decently priced over a wide variety of brands. On their main floor is tea/delicacies on the right, dry and frozen produce down the middle, and prepared food on the left. Now, I've only tried the roast meat section in the left corner (I haven't heard great things about the noodle bar so I've been avoiding it). However, the roast meat section does the deed in filling my stomach pangs.
Like all other chinese roast meat counters, they sell by the pound. They also have lunch boxes that are INSANELY affordable ($3.00). This includes rice, steamed cabbage, and your choice of roast pork, a whole chicken leg, or mince pork with edamame. I generally choose the cha siu because I'm always craving it and they give you a lot for your moneys worth. However, the other two is just as great. Right next to the roast meat section is a refrigerated section for prepared food with sushi, small dishes/apps, and other food.
Yeah, I agree with other reviewers; customer service is pretty lacking here. But that just seems to be the norm in Chinatown. Just come, get your stuff, and go enjoy your food because I don't know many places that can beat the prices here.
Yuck. Photo of the guy that was cutting his nails behind the food counter while preparing meals today.
This review is solely for the restaraunt located in the back of New Kam Man. They are really hidden so you wouldn't notice they are there but it is such a gem. Craving beef in spicy soup also known as a beef hot pot was hard for me to satisfy because the only known places to have it is in Flushing.
Knowing this place has that option for me, I've been here constantly because it just satisfies my cravings soooooo much and the portion is so generous. They also have many other food that I have tried such as the Japanese seafood stir fried udon which was delicious, and their sushi is a great deal in my opinion. I'm constantly returning to this place even though I am not having the craving because it is that good. Oops, I just let out a secret about this hidden gem.
Definitely come try this place out and try something new. Their sushi is also made on the spot not prepared then put in a box!
My friend always comes here to get chicken and duck feet/wings. They are fairly priced and a good snack when u need something to bite on. They also have roast pork, roast duck, and soy sauce chicken too! All very good.
They have all the essential needs at this supermarket from snacks, dry goods, and etc.
Come by to grab some Japanese snacks or if you're feeling wild try chicken/duck feet
This is our typical Chinese grocery store selling almost everything you need for the Asian cupboard. It doesn't have produce but downstairs has lots of household good to check out. The dinner ware is actually very good and priced suitability. Who needs Ikea! They have a hot food counter to order if you want some cooked food that is also good and cheap for a quick meal on the go.
The front counter for the duck and roast pork is always with a queue. I tend to buy it here. It is always freshly made and prices are about the same anywhere else you can get in Chinatown. The guys behind the chopping counter does their job and the ladies at the checkout are fairly friendly.
I like this Chinese grocery store.
It's got everything I'm looking for at an affordable price. I love their tea sets, teas, snacks, candies, and other kitchenware stuff. There are three floors here. After you enter the main floor you will see all their grocery items, the top floor has hello kitty/gift type things, and the bottom floor has all sorts of kitchenware. Employees here are friendly enough. They ring you up and wrap up your goodies quickly. No, there may not be a whole lot of service with a smile here. It is what it is.
This place is affordable and convenient if you're walking around Chinatown.
I love this place. Not only is the upstairs with all the cosmetics amazing, but they have delicious sushi. For 8$, you can get a huge plate of very fresh salmon sashimi, sushi, and a roll. It's enough for two people and some of my favorite sushi in the city. The basement has kitchen supplies and very cute bowls/plates/cups.
I came here for their beauty selection. As someone has started to delve into Asian skincare, the second floor is a gold mine. An amazing array plus testers! Of course there is a markup, but when you want instant gratification on some My Beauty Diary masks or Hada Labo products, this is probably the place to go.
There were plenty of young employees on the second floor, but they didn't interact with me whatsoever, which I liked. I know some stores have employees that have the tendency to hover, so I appreciated being able to look at stuff with my earbuds on.
Great find and selection!
