  1. I love cupcakes and this place is right around the corner from my job and every Tuesday we send one of the valets to grab us some cupcakes because every Tuesday is $2 Tuesday. All the cupcakes just $2. They have such a great variety to choose from but my favorite is the Strawberry Cheesecake one mmmm. All of them are delicious and worth a try. The workers are friendly and love to answer any of your questions. They also have something I've never seen before a blue velvet cupcake. Very Tasty. They have things called icing shots which is pretty much self explanatory (sugar overdose) Go try one out next Tuesday! Hey its only $2

  2. Great, as if I needed another cupcake shop in my life.  Pardon me while I write my diet a breakup letter.

This colorful and cutesie cupcake shop is new to Englewood, but certainly not new to the cake world. Cupcakes by Carousel is a family run business that's been around for 30 years. [This according to their website]

Came here after a lovely lunch with my Dad. Ofcourse I just haaaaaaad to get the Red Velvet, while my Dad — a creature of habit and lover of ONLY Entenmann's Pound Cake — got the Oreo. Shocking I tell you!

    The verdict:
    – Dad inhaled his Oreo cupcake. Lots of frosting and crumbs got stuck in his 'stache. Gosh he's adorable.
    – I followed suit and inhaled my Red Velvet. It was good, but not great. The frosting was a bit sweet but not overbearing. Visually the cake looked raw, but it wasn't. It was moist, maybe a bit too moist. They bake and freeze their cupcakes offsite so perhaps the defrosting process had something to do with the raw-looking texture. [I found this out from a previous visit when they ran out of Red Velvet and said they had a frozen batch that would be ready in 20 mins.]

Hmmm. I guess for the sake of preservation, these cakes freeze well, but it compromises the texture a bit and for that I have to deduct a star. Nothing beats freshly baked!  Plus these bad boys are pricey at $2.75 a pop.  But overall the service was good, the cakes were tasty and I got to enjoy the sight of my Dad trying to lick his frosting 'stache clean. Priceless!

  3. When my sweet tooth comes a calling, I immediately drive down the street to Cupcakes by Carousel and order my favorite Blackout cupcake. It is a moist chocolate cupcake topped with dark chocolate pudding and dusted with cake crumbs. The curious george comes in as a close second. Their red velvet is their most popular cupcake but I have not yet tried it out.

It is a bit pricey with most cupcakes costing $2.75. They do have a love card which gets punched every visit. After 10 visits you get a free cupcake and large coffee or small tea or juice box.

Besides cupcakes they also have cakes on site but if you want them custom made with writing on top you must order them a few days in advance.

The shop is bright with bold colors splashed everywhere. It is kept clean and everyone is very helpful.

    Also they are gluten-free friendly!

  4. Eh, not a fan.  These were emergency cupcakes that I needed for my two tikes.  My son was celebrating his birthday, and I needed something small to blow a candle out to.

I think it was the hard dried out icing that did it for me.  And the kids flat out didn't like it, "mommy I don't like it" were their exact words.  When a toddler opposes a chance at sweets, then something has to be wrong.
