  1. I visited this cafe on rainy day afternoon. Cafe was quiet but very cozy. Pastel blue chairs and detailed decoration with chandelier was impressive.
It's located right near the ridgewood train station. There are several cafes around here so it's pretty competitive for cafes.

Staff are very friendly and welcoming.
We sat on the window side on a comfortable sofa to enjoy the outside view. We ordered cappuccino and Grandma's secret cake. Cake was pretty good. But I had better. I enjoyed my Cappuccino but I wish it was little bit bolder.
I want to try their crepe and other sweets next time.

  2. Just here updating to a 5. The various sweets on the side for 1-1.50 are quite delicious. Poppy seed strudel and the apple cake are both excellent.

Nice people. Hope they do well. Quite inexpensive for the quality. Add more sour cherry based things please!

  3. Interesting place. Not sure I would have put a coffee/bakery shop across the street from Sook (see: yelp.com/biz/sook-pastry…), in a town flush with a half dozen coffee emporiums within a stones throw in any direction, but what do I know.

This Balkan style bakery makes cakes that look like my Mama made them, and the pleasant young staff seems eager to please, in a Macedonian sort of way.

The staff recommended feta/spinach pie for breakfast (a rif on spanakopita at $4.99).  I did not like this.  The phyllo was the texture of cardboard, with precious little filling.  Their version of a flat white was better, and the apricot jam filled butter cookie that comes gratis with the coffee was very good.

The space itself is oddly configured  with over sized chairs paired with tiny cafe style tables — too small for an average sized human — offering little elbow room.  They could have made better use of the space with perimeter seating.

To be fair I will return on a rainy day to try some of their cakes and crepes — and maybe just a straight black coffee/expresso to get the flavor of the roast.  Truth is — I want these folks to succeed because they are very engaging and bring a welcome ethnic flavor to northern Bergen county that increasingly shares a Central European demographic.  TBC.
