Don't know why everyone hates on this store. It's OK as far as I am concerned. Staff was helpful and pleasant to me. They had a sale on Pay Day bars and I loaded up. Woo hoo. Is it cramped? Yes, so are most drug stores in NYC.
Grand Central… in the center of NYC, the lights, the glossy floors, the beauty… until you see this Rite Aid.
To be honest, I love Rite Aid- their app is convenient, their pharmacists are always really nice to me, and they have good locations all around the city. This Rite Aid is barely lit, understaffed, and lacking in a lot of products you would expect Manhattan drugstores to have.
They had one person running a four register station… I don't understand this, especially if it's in one of the busiest places in NYC, selling "convenience items" for one of the biggest traveling hubs in the city.
Either way. I would still come here if not during rush hour just because Rite Aid offers good sales and coupons if you're a wellness+ member.
Came in for chocolate and left with two boxes of sugar cookies for 92 cents a box. They redid the lighting and the place looks great. Additionally, they added signage which lets customers know which register is open. Great quick service.
I went there three days ago and couldn't find a sale item. A very nice clerk spent a lot of time trying to find it for me (ultimately he was successful) and he was very pleasant. I'm therefore upgrading my rating to three stars.
The good: You don't need a card for discounts and savings. There is warm and cold beer for sale. Seriously, you can't go anywhere else (ie a local deli) and pay a fair price.
The bad: The place looks old. It is dimly lit. I wonder if the place is understaffed. Getting help (finding someone to answer a question) can be tricky.
The ugly: Long lines. And I'm not talking about the pharmacy either. There are cashiers at both entrances (keep that in mind).
I've been to Grand Central a ton of times but have no clue they had one of these in it. The Duane Reade is more showy & obvious. It was fortunate I came in here since they did have one item I wanted (travel size baby oil). It is definitely dingy & tiny at this location though Had no problem with getting in & out but maybe that's b/c it was a weekend evening.
