  1. I really, really like La Colombe's coffee. What I don't like is the price. It's to be expected with chain NYC coffee joints, but it gets me every time. $5 for a drink is a bit much, especially when the price is half elsewhere.

This location is super busy in the morning so I don't recommend coming here two minutes before you need to be in the office and expect to get to work on time.

Another gripe: I wanted to try the famous Draft Latte once and they were "out." Huh? I asked when they'd have it back, and they said that they were supposed to have it but they didn't get a shipment. Unhelpful. That trip I went with an iced almond latte instead which was delicious but not what I wanted and expensive. I waited so long in line I didn't want to walk away empty handed.

I came in a few days later and was able to order the Black and Tan, which is a combo of the draft latte and their cold brew. It was delicious, but I can't afford to have it everyday. Will definitely be a once-in-a-while thing.

    Also: no wifi. Meh.

  2. i've only tried the latte on tap and LOVED it. very hard to believe that the drink doesn't have any sweeteners. i recommend that order whenever i get the chance. there isn't much seating (though the shop is quite spacious) but you'll probably find a seat if you're not there during peak hours. i also love the ambiance of this cafe. it's airy, light, wood everywhere with the "bar" in the center".

  3. This is probably what I picture the perfect coffee shop in New York to be – La Colombe.

There was quite a line in the late afternoon for coffee, which I didn't mind since I was mesmerized by the moving parts around me. It was the epitome of the New York coffee scene, surrounded by tourists and locals alike. The shop was bustling with people drinking coffee alone while reading the Times, or in groups having heated discussions.

Once I got to the front of the line, I ordered a latte, just to keep things simple. The latte art was simple but elegant – or maybe it took no effort at all, but by pure luck it turned out to be a beautiful pattern of steamed milk amid the strains of espresso.

Closes unfortunately at 6:30pm, but I shouldn't be drinking coffee that late at night anyway.

This was one of my favorite lattes in New York, by far. It was strong and smooth, just the way I like it.

  4. The expresso and chocolate cookie were fine. The service was efficient.

I have been preferring Starbucks for their flourless chocolate cookie, hot chocolate with whipped cream and coffee….

  5. After trying various specialty coffee shops in NYC, La Columbe is probably the best coffee I had in New York. Coming from Seattle, where coffee is just on a different level, I was not expecting much from coffee shops in New York. However, I love La Columbe because of their Black & Tan! Such a unique flavor that I won't find in Seattle.

I've also been to their different locations (because I am a huge fan of La Columbe after my first cup of coffee) and I like this one the best because of their ambience & spacious setting with great lighting. Highly recommend whether you're a local or a tourist!

  6. As always, la colombe will have a special place in a heart. They still have, hands down, the best latte in nyc. Amongst all the joints, big and small, I have yet to find many cafes that serve latte to such perfect texture with consistency. Kudos to you.

  7. Amazingly refreshing coffee. There are always long lines here but don't let that scare you- it moves pretty fast. There are a few tables for those that want to sit around and chat

  8. This is the larger version of the best coffee shop in New York. Period. It's worth the wait and the line moved fast. Plus the people in the line are the type of people you wanna be in a line with: intelligent New Yorkers who won't settle for second rate coffee. The coffee is unbelievable in an understated way. They don't rely on it being super strong to win easy brownie points. It's complex coffee with a multitude of notes easily within reach. I usually go for the iced, which comes with a shot of espresso: it'll give you a buzz like no other and for longer. The cappuccino is smooth and jolly. I always add the flourless chocolate cookie because I'm a wuss like that.
