So far so good with this new addition! They are definitely giving the smoothie and bubble tea place next door a run for their money $$! I can say that the bubble tea here is delicious! I also tried their sushi rolls which are good as well. They have a lunch special, any two rolls for $7.95. Until next visit. .
Decided to give BK Express a try because I love sushi more than anything in the world and I live around the corner. Typically for good sushi I have to order in from further away on Smith Street since Downtown Brooklyn is seriously lacking. The restaurant is relatively small and when I arrived around 6:30 pm on a Monday only one person was eating in. However, like me, a few others were there for take-out.
The menu is mostly sushi but they also have tempura, udon and fried rice options. There is a separate menu for slushies and bubble tea. A couple of items on the sushi menu, like uni (sea urchin), they didn't actually have because they said no one has been ordering it, which is fair.
I tried one special roll – called the dancing tuna roll – and two hand rolls. Prices were reasonable with the special roll (8 pieces) costing $8, which is less than at other places I've eaten at.
I sat at a table near the counter as the sushi chef was putting together my order. He seemed to be confused and the waitress had to keep bringing over the menu to help him, which was slightly disconcerting.
The actual taste when I finally got to try it was good. Fish was fresh. I think the tuna roll was best, as the hand rolls were somewhat inconsistent. The one hand roll was tiny with almost no rice in it whereas the other was much more full. Seems like they are still getting used to everything, as they are a new restaurant, so hopefully they work out some of the kinks, as I would definitely try them out again.
I came here with a co-worker after a client meeting in the neighborhood. He and I were craving for some teriyaki chicken and bubble tea. There was a decent line when we walked in. Trying to order here is worse than trying to order at a drive-thru with a broken microphone/speaker. I ordered several times, yet the cashier was not paying attention. At this point, the line got even longer, and I felt the pressure of ordering and paying really fast. I had to yell at the woman at the register until finally, she looked at me and said, "what do you want?" Okay. After that weird and rude exchange, I waited for a really long time to pick up my food and bubble tea. The food reminded me of food court Chinese take-out. They were very generous on the chicken teriyaki and rice, but it was just nothing out of the ordinary. I had my teriyaki fix, but wasn't truly satisfied with it. The worst part is – and this was ENTIRELY my fault – I ordered a red bean milk tea. What I thought was red-bean flavored milk tea with boba was actually milk tea with red beans on the bottom. I didn't mind it as I love red bean, BUT, it was ridiculously sweet that it took me a few hours to finish it. I wasn't going to throw it away; I spent money on it! I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone who is trying to go out for a quick lunch. Oh, and if you have a much louder voice than I do, you'll probably get your order in quicker than I did.
They are definitely filling a hole in the market! BK Express is a mid-priced Chinese & Japanese takeaway, that also does bubble teas and other yummy drinks. The sushi rolls are OK – not the best I've had – but in this area devoid of any other good Japanese or Chinese choices, its a miracle.
