I didn't know Duane Reade's closed! I was there before 10 pm on a Tuesday and heard one of those "we are closing in five minutes" announcements.
The store was fairly clean but the way it was laid out wasn't intuitive. Also, they didn't have my shampoo (regular Neutrogena) nor did they have any plain seltzer (it was hot and I was thirsty…I had to buy black cherry seltzer. Oh, the humanity!)
So, for not having my two staples and closing so early, I have to give this two stars.
This is one of my favorite drugstores in all of Astoria. It's always clean and surprisingly empty. It's easy to navigate, as well. It includes a Papyrus section, which not all DR have, and a larger-than-average beauty supply section in the front.
Great selection of beer, seriously for a Duane Reade it's fantastic! Lots's of good sales and specials here on things that everyone needs like toilet paper, toothpaste, paper towel rolls. etc.
Staff is great from the cashiers that manage long lines during peak hours to their pharmacy staff whom I've dealt with or watched my boy deal with.
Plus if you don't see something immediately (as I haven't) even the manager will walk around the whole store with you until what you need is found if he's sure they carry it…however they could be better organized as walks around the store shouldn't be needed to find simple things (I needed orthopedic gel pad things, don't judge – lol).
Still, in all this is the best Duane Reade I've ever been to in Queens and they serve their purpose well.
Given the selection of drug stores in Astoria, Duane Reade, especially this lcoation, is much appreciated. Clean and well organized, but also well stocked.
I came here today to get some office supplies, pens, and some light bulbs. Certainly not cheap ($27), but definitely worth the money. Helpful staff, too!
