Southside Coffee

“LOVE this place- it's right around the corner and they have free wi-fi!”

“Southside is gleefully simple: a handful of espresso drinks, coffee, tea, and a small assortment of freshly baked goods.”

“I only got a coffee but they were totally cool with me hanging out for almost an hour and people watching.”

  1. Excellent coffee. A great neighborhood hangout. A little decadent. Over the past six years, the interior has started to show significant signs of wear and tear, like any place (or person) would without sustained upkeep. And just like everyone else, it could use a little TLC. Aging can be done gracefully, and this place definitely has the potential. Break out the toner!

  2. Something about the position of the queue in relation to the door makes me loathe this place. You literally can't line up without someone bumping into your coffee and spilling it all over you. Same goes for paying, turning around and trying to leave. The position of the milk bar makes it a hassle to walk through the queue for a drop of milk. These are things I think about, people! I should be an architect.

    The regular black coffee is always burnt and so highly acidic and they don't take cards. I want to love Southside as a local South Slope resident and honest patronizer, but with better spots in the area, I probably won't go out out my way.

    Notable: good seating for studying/working and the revamped sandwiches looked delicious. Perhaps worth another visit for the latter.

  3. I judge coffee houses based on its performance on cappuccino, unless they serve a speciality coffee.

    I'm always on the lookout for great coffee, so naturally This place has been on my list for a long time, and now that I've gotten around to it, I'm happy to report that Their cappuccino is definitely worth a detour… And It's indeed one of the better coffees in the great city of New York, and that says a lot…

    * Cash only.
    * Never had problems finding parking.
    * Free WiFi.
    * clean bathroom.
    * It's close to the green-wood cemetery, grab your coffee and book, and enjoy the serenety and beauty of the cemetery.
    * their seasonal watermelon lemonade was not good.

    Pro bonus: if you think coffee could really use a cup of tea like right about now… I suppose "Chai" tea might be the answer to your prayers…

  4. Strong
    Coffee,
    Nice service,
    Laptop friendly
    With big windows. Not very many seats.

  5. This is a pretty nice little cafe! It is located on 6th Ave. sort of away from other little cafe's and such. The coffee is good quality and the drinks are well made. The barista was super friendly and sweet. They have free WIFI in the cafe. The cafe gets lots of light and a large amount of traffic. They have a small selection of pastries to choose from. The cafe is cash only. There did not seem to be air conditioning in the place; or maybe they just didn't have it on when I was there. There are a couple of seats outside in the front.

  6. Solid place, lots of light, a decent number of tables.  The coffee is excellent and the barrista seemed cheerful, which is nice to find in a BK coffeeshop.

  7. Cool neighborhood cafe. It has plenty of chairs and tables and has an outdoor bench too. It's quite warm and toasty inside. Their drinks are always made to perfection. The baristas are great. They have dessert/baked goods for sale too. Usually, there's only one or two kinds per day.

  8. Imagine my dismay when I went to order a soy latte and the last remaining apple turnover at Southside Coffee, only to rummage through my bag and realize I left my wallet at home! In a failed attempt to not embarrass myself, I frantically told the barista that I had forgotten my wallet at home with what I'm sure was a dumbfounded expression on my face. Though slightly reluctant, he assured me that I could return and pay for my items at a later time. I enjoyed my latte and surprisingly delicious apple turnover while attempting to use their wifi (which for some reason wouldn't work which was the whole reason for my visit). I returned two days later and paid my debt, satisfying the karma unbalance I surely accrued. All in all. The trusting barista and the yummy turnover–5 stars. Thank you again!
