  1. The only place in the area to get a serving of real matcha. I visited once and ordered an iced matcha latte and it tasted as good as, if not better than, the ones in the city. I will definitely be back to try their bubble teas and their loose teas. Staff are friendly. My only complaint is the lack of parking nearby but we will live.

  2. The Village Tea shop is probably the only place to get good bubble tea in Ridgewood. It also has a very good selection of real tea, and the owner, Eugene knows what he's talking about. He is clearly passionate about his product.

He's willing to make customizations, I got slushy bubble tea instead of milky. The shop is on the small side, and they don't have much seating. It's more of a place to just grab your drink and go for a walk. If you like tea, this is the best stop in Ridgewood.

  3. I shouldn't like this bubble tea emporium so much — but I do.  When I think bubble tea —  I mistakenly associate it with teeny boppers and yesterdays trendiness — but this cute little shop is so much more than bubble tea.

The gracious proprietors (Eugene and May) opened Village Tea about 10 months ago — and they are still fussing about how to best make this intimate space even more welcoming.  Gene and May take tea seriously, about which their knowledge is encyclopedic.  It is pleasing to talk tea with them and a cool place to sidle into after dinner for a spot of matcha.

  4. Good tea is hard to come by… And let's be real… I wanted to support my fellow asians in Bergen County! My passion fruit bubble tea was refreshing. It wasn't sugary like other places; definitely a fresh brew. A little pricy for bubble tea ($4.25 for 16oz.) however you would waste the same money at Starbucks, and this is way better!

Can't wait to go back and try the other flavors.

  5. It's hard for me not to like a place like this. I mean a large Ceremonial Matcha (12 oz of bitter grassy goodness in the best way possible) to go for 3.25? Are you serious? I'd pay 4-5$ (if it was real good Matcha) for this stuff and still be happy with the quality and quantity.

The Matcha they use is surprisingly high quality. It doesn't taste nearly as watered down as the stuff you find in most tea shops. They actually whisk the Matcha here, as in actual traditional preparation methods and not just dumping it in to some other liquid like you see in various coffee shops ala Starbucks or related. It's frothy but not too much and just perfect. It's a great way of telling a place actually cares about their product and just doesn't want to sell.  I mean sure it's not the perfect shade of green but for 12 ounces at this price, I can't think of a better deal.

Perfect cup of medium-low quality Matcha with good service? I'll be here potentially weekly.

I mean if you want a bad cup of the stuff, go to Starbucks in town or Teavana at the town. I mean, I'm not blaming the staff at either of these places but it costs less here and you're supporting a local business.

  6. Quaint and cute tea shop in Ridgewood. It's become my new stop for bubble tea. Tapioca is super fresh and employees very friendly. I've had the Thai bubble tea and taro bubble tea. I finished both before even making it home. Least favorite aspect of this place would be the parking but that just comes with the territory in Ridgewood.

Next time I go back I'm excited to try the fruit tea. Looks delicious.

  7. Nice selection of Bubble Tea, the matcha is super tasty and fresh.

I really like the staff, they're very helpful and welcoming.

One of my favorite tea shops!

  8. Thanks Yelp! I have a new favorite addiction (2 check-ins in one day!!) A cheaper and BETTER alternative to Teavana.

I tried the Matcha, Jasmine, and Passion fruit bubble tea (HOLY TASTEBUDS) they were delicious.

I purchased 4 different loose leaf teas. All have a wonderful aroma. I will be steeping some tonight while I'm in front of the fireplace. 🙂

The staff is friendly and it has a very cozy environment. I will definitely be a regular at this little piece of heaven.
