Breads Bakery

“Of course their Babka is amazing but at $14 the Trader Joes Babka for $5 is definitely just as good an 1/3rd of the price.”

“I was looking for a rugelach that would be as delicious as the ones at a bakery called Marzipan in Jerusalem.”

“Breads was recommended to me by a friend who had developed an addiction to this unassuming little bread shop just off Union Square.”

  1. The chocolate babka is life (and belt size) changingly good. HOLY SHIT THIS IS GOOD! Like sell my car for it good. Sell my soul for it! This is crack.

  2. This is now a permanent part of my NYC trip itinerary. They have some of the best chocolate rugelach you can get. To me there are two major categories of rugelach, one where it's made in long roll and then cut and one (like at Breads) where each is made individually. Both are great, though. The rugelach here is very light and moist. I bought a dozen to bring home with me, actually.

I've also had their croissants, which are fantastic, especially the almond one. They have so many beautiful food items that I can't imagine getting bored. Also, their coffee is pretty good. So, you know, get thee to the bakery!

  3. Awesome cafe in Union Square! Relatively spacious inside so you can probably snag a table within 5 minutes.

I just got an iced coffee and an almond croissant. Appreciated that they had non-dairy options at the table (soy, almond milk), and the croissant was delicious! They had a lot of other baked goods that I'm looking forward to try next time. This will definitely be one of my go-to coffee spots in the Union Square area from now on!

  4. I had a friend that used to work here and loved the breads. He would bring home all kinds of pastries to his family. I came here with an old friend and shared some chocolate babka and pastries, and had some coffee as well. I also ordered a cheese guyere, and my friend got a cinnamon twist roll. The pastries were great; hot and fresh and dank. The prices not so much. We split the bill and I paid around $15 for my share- that's $7 a pastry! I can see what the hype is all about however. The bakery is very popular and their service is great. But this seems more like a novelty bakery- one of those things everyone says you have to try. Once you try it, you're good and don't need to go back.

  5. This bakery gets better each time I go! I've yet to try something I did not love here. My most recent visit was brought on by a cookie craving, but an employee was passing out samples (still hot from the oven!!) of feta cheese wrapped in some sort of light pastry dough, called feta bureka. It was amazing, so I had to buy one. As if I need another reason for daily indulgences at Breads Bakery!

  6. I am so so so grateful that Breads Bakery is only two blocks away from where I work.  It's really nice to know I can grab some AWESOME pastry whenever I get hungry at work.

I've been to this place twice in the last week and both times did not disappoint.  The employees here are very friendly and serve you with a great attitude – it seem like they really enjoy working here.

I got a cheesecake the first time I was here.  The cheesecake itself is $8 (yes, I know it's a bit expensive) and it was tasty!  The portion was just the right amount (I couldn't even finish it actually) and the cheese was not too heavy at all!  I came back yesterday and tried and famous Nutella Babka – they sell for $12.95 each but if you buy two you can get both for $20.00!  I only bought one because you know I don't need all that extra calories in me.  Let me tell you how AMAZING this Babka was!!  The Babka was SOOOOOO soft and FILLED with nutella!  It's like every bite I take – some nutella falls off the crust.  This is one of the best and tasty pastry I've ever tried in my life – YES IT'S REALLY THAT GOOD!  Keep in mind though you probably won't be able to finish one Babka by yourself!

I also want to mention a while back my co worker got me one of their croissants to try and it was delicious as well!  Their croissant has some type of cream inside which makes it taste a lot better than all the other places I've tried!

Overall – an above average bakery and I will definitely be back often!!!

  7. I always swing by here to get the chocolate rugelach whenever I'm in NY…My girlfriend loves them!  Essentially extra rich chocolate croissants…Check it out!  I've also had a marzipan croissant from there which was OK.

  8. Don't even think about coming down this block if you are on a diet. Their nutella chocolate babka is crack.

You will not be able to control yourself. That I can guarantee you because it is that good. I wish they could sell smaller versions of everything because I am afraid to even think about calorie counting if I come here.

I have yet to try the other pastries but I guarantee you I will be back when the weather is even slightly colder to try the almond croissant and rugelach.
