  1. This is a super cramped but charming little tea/coffee shop in the Village. The walls are lined with tea canisters and paraphernalia, while the walkways are bordered with jars and bags of fresh coffee beans. The selection is fantastic though if you're shopping for tea, I would suggest paying a bit more for the loose leaf teas behind the counter on their menu than the ones in canisters lining the shelves — better quality and more authentic (the canisters are all just brand names mostly). The staff is super welcoming and friendly and will cheerfully help you with anything you need. I've sadly only made it to this shop once since it's quite a trek from Queens but I will definitely be going back when the weather warms up. During my first visit, I went with my brother and bought some Russian Caravan tea and an adorable tea house steeper. Upon entering, you are overwhelmed by the delicious scent of high quality coffee beans. My brother, more a fan of coffee than tea, quite literally sniffed his way towards the bags of coffee beans, taking deep breaths to savor the aroma like one would savor a good meal. Walking into this shop is like walking into an old curiosity shop in London but for tea and coffee rather than antiques and odd trinkets. It has an old world charm and quality products to back it up.

Tea/coffee variety and quality: 5/5 — Wide selection of quality teas/coffee beans
Service: 5/5 — Warm, approachable, friendly, welcoming; You feel like family here
Atmosphere: 5/5 — Some may not appreciate how cramped or dim this place is but I think it lends a wonderfully rustic, secretive feel to the place — like you've just found a hidden gem

Overall: 5/5 — Fantastic little shop! Would highly recommend to anyone who is a tea/coffee aficionado!

  2. Across the street from Uncorked is this ye old tea shop.  What a great shop.  I looked around and sniffed out some tea and picked a fruity loose tea mix.  So far so good.  Ive made it into iced tea with my tea ball…. and it was great!  Next mission is to figure out how much to add to an infusion container and then try it hot of course.

  3. One of my laments while I walk through the streets of Gotham is the loss of many local businesses.  This is especially true in Greenwich Village, where chain stores have taken over some areas, or storefronts remain unoccupied due to high rents.  The mom & pop shops of the past are sadly now an endangered species.

One constant through the years has been McNulty's.  I wonder if the interior has ever been changed since it opened in 1895.  The old wooden floors, shelves and cabinets harken back to era long before gentrification.

Once you enter, you are treated to a wonderful coffee smell.  Yes, I literally want to breathe in the atmosphere here!

It is a small store, and it can get cramped, especially if the store is crowded (and I'm glad to say that I often see many people shopping here).  Despite it's tiny size, McNulty's does offer a very good selection.  Although I love the coffee smell, I have never purchased coffee here.  Instead, I have gone for the loose teas, which range from simple to exotic, from caffeinated to herbal.  The teas are kept in large glass jars, and just browsing through them is a wonderful experience.

The staff who work here are wonderful.  They are very friendly and eager to help you.

So, if you want great tea or coffee, or if you just want to see what NYC shops looked like in days gone by, I'd definitely recommend making a stop at McNulty's!!!

  4. This place feels like you traveled back in time to an old movie set. I got different blends of floral tea and it's okay. Their chocolate covered espresso beans were good. I like the vibe more than what they were selling.

  5. Just amazing… Simple as that. You want good loose leaf tea? Go here. The guy that works there is super helpful and very kind, their selection is great, and you feel like you've been transported to old school New York. What more could you ask for?

  6. Discovering McNulty's by sheer accident is what I imagine discovering the Lascaux Caves must have been like–shock, awe and raw admiration for a place that offers so much yet demands so little.

For tea-philes, this is mecca. Don't let the simple storefront fool you. Inside lies an Indian Jones-like cavern of wondrous treasures inspired by the miracle of camellia sinensis–from pure loose leafs to aromatic blends to convenient packages to molded cakes. My personal favorites were the delicate jasmine pearls, as well as the astonishing breadth of pu-erh grades (the latter being my favorite tea of all time). Most teas are loose leaf, but the staff will let you sniff anything. And speaking of the staff, the men manning the counter were some of the nicest, most knowledgable people I've ever had the pleasure of buying tea from.

  7. Nice source of fresh coffee beans. Even though the price of beans has increased I still prefer this then canned coffee.

Picked up some French Vanilla Roast at $12 a pound. One of the other reasons I came in was to look for a matcha whisk which they do not carry. Been on a fresh matcha binge at home lately.. Lol

Would definitely return service was kind and friendly.

BTW….The french vanilla french roast had some sweet cherry notes really enjoyable. I grind beans at home so coffee stays fresher.

  8. Although I am not a coffee or tea fan (outside Lipton black tea), this place is wonderful. It is a vintage and rustic feel to it which makes it a unique gem that adds character to the village. It is a bit pricey, but not overalls so. You could find any tea or coffee your heart desires here! It is a bit crowded, so you may have to wait, but if you're looking for something in particular, it is worth the wait.
