This is gonna be a long one.And it will be filled with lots of curse words. If you dont like curse words, dont read this fuckin review. So, I came here for a couple of travel items. I asked a kid stocking shelves where they were and he was so nice, he stopped and showed me exactly where to go. Also, let me know if I needed anything else, he's there to help. Nice job! (That's the 1 star!) Now, I'm waiting in line to purchase my stuff and 2 cashiers come to the front to help customers. The first one, a black woman, takes these 2 black customers who weren't in line, first. So when the kid calls me over, I said to him "that was so rude". He looks at me….with a blank stare. Doesn't say anything. I start getting a little riled up. I said, "so you are going to ignore me now?" He just stares at me again. Blank look on his face. So I raise my voice, and say "are you fucking kidding me?" My husband comes over and asks what happened so I tell him "this mindless dipshit wont answer my question". HE STILL STARES AT ME! A cashier next to him says to me, "She helped them with a return, that's why she took them first". I said "Thank you very much. That's all he had to say" He's still staring and says "I dont know what to say" I said, "Say what she said asshole" (Yes, I was definitely rude). My order comes to $9.87. I get .13 cents change. He takes it out of the register and drops a penny. He leans over half way to get it and changes his mind and hands me .12 cents. I said, "That's not the correct change, I want my penny!" (I really didn't, I just liked being an asshole!). He said they dont have anymore. I said "Pick up the penny you dropped", he said he can't find it. I said "go into the register then, I WANT MY PENNY". He said, I dont have any in there. I said you better go get some because I want my penny. And PS, when you give it to me, I'm going to throw it out! He got me my penny, I walked out of the store, and threw it on the floor! I understand it's Manhattan and you gets lots of tourists, but PISS OFF. I'm from fuckin Queens asshole. Dont talk to me like I'm some douche bag! Being in NY brings out an aggressive side to me, and I dont mind it. I actually kinda like it. Find another drug store, this place sucks, this chain sucks. Fuck you Duane Reade, YOU SUCK thanks for the penny
DR is about as messy as it gets. The presentation is poor. The stores are not well maintained. And the staff is often seen loitering around the aisles even as weary customers are lining up at unoccupied cash registers, waiting for their turn to pay for their gum or water or whatever and get out in a hurry.
Avoid this store chain if you could go to Walgreens instead.
If you work or live in the area, this is the best Duane Reade to patronize. Their pharmacists are polite and professional. Their stock and selection is abundant from food to beer to nail polish to fake eye lashes to glue for said eye lashes. This place always comes through in a pinch and is clean and organized.
This could quite possibly be the worst Duane Reade I've been in. The customer service sucks. They are slow as molasses and the staff needs more training in the photo area.
Just an FYI to those who don't know, you can return used beauty products to DR. If it's unflattering/not your shade, you can return it.
I had a receipt for three pieces of cosmetics that I wanted to return and one lip product without a receipt. I made sure to specify before the whole process. The girl behind the counter basically rang everything up and told me most would go back on my card and the rest is store credit since I didn't have the receipt for the lippy AND some points were redeemed for the cosmetics with the receipt. She advised me to use it now since I told her I didn't want another card in my wallet. Went shopping around for products.The original girl was leaving and told me to go to an Indian guy who she told me was the manager.
Started this whole process AGAIN from the explaining to the ringing up only to be told that I can't even get store credit for the lippy that didn't have a receipt simply because he didn't see the item under my DR card. Whole time I went to pick up products based on being told that I had store credit. When I said it might have been more than 30 days since I purchased it he went on to say nothing can be returned beyond 30 days. Mind you if I didn't have a receipt they would've given me store credit ACCORDING TO THE BACK OF THE RECEIPT. Also why is a receipt even needed when they can verify your purchases by simply scanning your card??? Anyway I brought up the policy on the back of the receipt to be told "It's not true, look over there". He pointed at something that wasn't relevant enough for me to turn around because at this point I'm pissed I spent 20 minutes shopping around. I just left all of the products on the counter. I had him refund the one item on my card and left with a measly $2 store credit that I didn't even want to leave with.
Also you can't return all items at any DR location. Don't even think about it! Only certain items. I was told to go back to the DR I went to in order to return a couple of TERRIBLE quality concealers that I purchased. That should be specified every time people purchase stuff or at least on the back of the receipt with the rest of the useless shit that doesn't apply.
