  1. Newly renovated. This Duane Reade looks much better than before inside and out. Everything looks much more clearer and a lot more spacious. The biggest thing I dislike about this Duane Reade is their customer service. The don't know anything about anything and the lines here moves super slow. There must of been at least 10-15 people on line with only one open register. The store manager was just standing there looking at the line. Dude didn't even bother opening up another register or calling for help. On the plus side, it is open 24 hours and I like the location. 71st Continental Ave and Austin St is practically empty in the middle of the night so finding parking is a real piece of cake.

  2. Quick and to the point, I went in for cold medicine. The store was nice kept and well organized. That's always a plus. I hate a messy pharmacy.

The prices seemed reasonable. A great counter deal was the $2 wall calendar of puppies I snagged for my office. It was a great find and they had so many other options. I love only paying $2 for something like the. Makes the ten dollars I spent on cold medicine less tragic.

Another good deal was the dollar I paid for a tissue box. Duane Reade brand, which I hope is soft but for a dollar I am willing to take the chance.

Always a good day when you catch great bargains at Duane Reade. Definitely happy about that!

  3. This drug store has a vast array of choices in all the items they carry. One of the things I like about them. Not just one or two brands to choose from. They are also open 24 hours. Not many drug stores in the area are open late. In the back they have a large selection of frozen foods  (pizza, microwave meals), and fresh fruits like bananas, apples, and lemons. So its not just a drug store since it carries a few items to save you during late night last minute need. I have always found that stock is available. Cant say the same for competitors like rite aid in the area. The shelfs are also neatly kept that provide a good shopping experience. There are always customer service representative available and happily assist with any questions. Drug pickup is only a 20 minute wait. Vs other places that ask you to return in over an hr. I also always find my soar throat medicine here where other drugs stores dont carry it. The only downside is that parking is difficult.

  4. I feel like this location, after it's renovation, if very sterile looking – but clean.
They often move around the aisles so this will never be a place where you are familiar with and can run in real quick for something.

The lines move at a snails pace. I went to pick up photos at 6:30p and waited on what I thought was the photo line. When I got to the counter 10 min later, I was told I had to go to the back of the regular line. I went to speak to a manager who said after 7p it becomes one line… but it was 6:30p…

On a good note, if you order Holiday photos cards from here, the paper they use (as of Dec 2013) is blank on the back so you can write on it. My friend went to a Duane Reade in Long Island and his had the photo paper company printed all over the back so he would not write on it.

  5. the good: it's 24 hours. it's bright. it's clean. it has that "future spaceship" look that chain pharmacies are moving towards. the cashiers are friendly, even at odd hours of the day.

the bad: no self-checkout machines?! come on! CVS has had them forever!

the ugly: the lines due to the lack of self-checkout machines. DO NOT WANT.

  6. While home nursing sinusitis, my last contact with the outside, real world before being cooped up was Duane Reade. Everything you need, Duane Reade, or so the marketing jingle goes.

I need tissues. Duane Reade had tissues. I needed cough drops. Check. I need reasonably priced but surprisingly tasty Pepperidge Farm clone cookies? Enter DR's Delish line.

This particular location benefits from close proximity to the subway and features the always enthusiastic stylings of a Mr. Reynold. If you visit this site you'll hear his friendly voice announcing you to "Come on down!" He seems downright passionate about what he does and the speed he brings greatly helps any checkout line backups. The rest of the staff provides average enthusiasm but Reynold, you take customer service to a new level.

Rite-Aide is across the street but  Rite-Aide does not offer the DR rewards card that results in my receiving $5 coupons.

My dealings with the pharmacy have also been generally positive. I once had insurance issues with coverage for a certain purple pill and the onsite pharmacist was able to work with my doctor and find a suitable alternative.

Oh, and they also sell huge tubs of snacks that seem as if my hand would become lost in a sea of cheesy, salty goodness.

I'm sorry, Dominican Republic, but I think of somewhere on 71st Continental when I hear talk of "the DR".

  7. Long bread lines nearly all day:  morning, afternoon, evening.  I would come here often as having to live in this area in a past life of adult times.  Every check-out counter is cluttered with merchandise as there is no space for customers to set down their selection for purchase.

The service is somewhat inattentive.  This location sits in the heart of a busy intersection of Forest Hills's business district, near "Boulevard of Death."
