Music is awesome. Vinyl, great speakers, awesome selections chosen by Barista. Rose Rouge by Saint Germain. YESSSS.
Place is filthy. Sat next to a pile of dishes for 2 hrs. It's still here. Oh hello cigarette buds.
My mug rim was completely chipped. This is very unsafe and unprofessional for any food service setting.
I got the avocado pepper toast with goat cheese. Goat cheese paired with lemon = too acidic. Goat cheese did not compliment texture of avocado either, as avocado is already creamy. It needed something sweet or crunchy (anything but goat cheese!) to contrast. Perhaps some cumin spice and grated radishes. This is a perfect example of "New American" style gone wrong. Quality ingredients, poorly combined. The whole sandwich started tasting like Greek yogurt.
The bathroom is terrifying. Like, porter potty in the Hudson Valley terrifying. I'm trying to erase this experience.
Internet is slow. But no time limit.
Space is kick ass.
Individual tables with outlets instead of those family style tables trending in some cafes. Much appreciated.
This is one of my favorite work and sip coffee places. Great atmosphere for studying as there are plenty of wooden tables for two. Lots of natural light and good music curation by the staff played at a level that allows you to enjoy without blasting your eardrums.
The drip coffee is good, a balanced and mild coffee that has no acidity. The latte is solid. The staff eclectic and friendly, just don't expect them to be all business. The baristas here are more likely to chat to you about the minutiae of their day and engage in non sequiturs. So not exactly Starbucks but if you were looking for the military efficiency and the sterile top 40 music playing at a whisper of Starbucks you're in the wrong place.
Good ambiance to spend an afternoon reading, but unfortunately, I was in a hurry.
The espresso was good tho.
PS: the toilet in their bathroom is really low! is it some hipster squat toilet?
This is probably the first time I see a coffee shop that has free almond milk! AWESOM!!!!!!
Found this on Yelp, and probably will never pick another place to study anymore. Beautiful wooden coffee shop with fun staffs!
Nice place to do work. During the summer they open up the front area and sunlight just streams in. It's all wood paneled and sleek looking inside with two person tables for you to sit and type away. Wifi is reliable and free, coffee is good. Only complaint is the prison style toilet inside which seems a little out of place with my experience here. They have croissant breakfast sandwiches and other baked goods which I didn't have a chance to try. Solid local spot if you're looking to get some work done or to chat with a friend.
The prompt is asking me "What keeps you coming back!" — I keep on coming back here because it is one of my favorite coffee shops in the Lower East Side!
It is extremely spacious, but can feel tight due to how the seats are designed and how closely they are to one-another. The bar is a bit more friendly for spreading out if that's what you tend to prefer. There are some couches in the front but those tend to be occupied… if you're one of the lucky folks that can beat everyone else to them though, that's lottery seating!
Music is very chill / indie. Good to work to.
The coffee here is good. I haven't tried any of the pastry / other food options here, it's all experience with their iced teas, coffees, etc. Never been disappointed, and their coffee is pretty tasty, definitely not watered down at all. Offers all the standard bells & whistles to dress your coffee up with.
I have never changed a review from FIVE stars to ONE star (as in no goddamn way I would ever enter this establishment again) after one experience.
But this was beyond the pale.
For one thing there's no more wine. For another, the hipster man-bun douchebag working there was on the phone and would not get off to take our order. Rude, sullen, and totally unlike the wonderful people who used to work there.
My friend and I thought it had to be a joke. Or that we were part of some kind of video or commercial about rude baristas.
"Yeah so what do you want?" he mumbled when I politely–even apologetically–asked if we might order some coffee.
I could have said, "You think you might get off the phone before I'm in f****** menopause, Ass****?" but I was in a good mood.
It's one thing to be on the phone for a few minutes for an emergency, but not to say, "I'm so sorry" afterward or make some attempt to multi-task is simply unacceptable.
It's still a pretty place with good coffee but it's not the place it was. Also the music was crappy. I discovered new indie rock through this place. I miss the old barista. A musician of course, who loved to give suggestions or answer questions.
The Village location may still be fine but this is such a disappointment. I loved going here after Russ and Daughters and was just thinking I should go back soon. Went to Katz Deli with out-of-town friend and said, "Oh you have to see this really great coffee /wine place…"
Ugh.
Perfect people-watching, open air perch.
If you need to get work done, this Why Not location is perfect. I love the high ceilings, open air door, spacing of the tables, drinks selection, and vinyl playing in the background. I was lucky enough to snag a front corner spot for maximum exposure, but there is a plenty of seating in the back. The bathroom is a little janky (no toilet seat), so some of you might need to hold it in.
