  1. Beautiful little spot in a neighborhood that's changing fast. We stopped in for a mid-morning coffee to try something new and get a shot of caffeine. I love a business that ventures into the cold brew realm and Burly does a fantastic job. Dough doughnuts in the display case were oh so hard to resist…next time.

Burly is a great place to hang and take up a bit of wifi. The shop is bright and open, making it perfect for a coffee date or a personal reading date.

Oh, and two iced coffees later we were practically vibrating down the street. Do not underestimate the buzz!

  2. I discovered this spot while walking through the Bed-Stuy area. It's a calm, quiet place to do some work. I ordered a chai latte and a chocolate biscotti, both of which I enjoyed– the chai latte more spiced and milky than sweet, which I liked. That went well with the rich and sweet chocolate biscotti, which I wish wasn't so small. My other suggestion is that this place should have more outlets. There are 3 in very hard-to-find places on the walls. Overall, this is a cozy spot to sit and rest on a chilly weekend afternoon.

  3. I tried this place out a second time this morning and I was really impressed. The barista working was super helpful and made great suggestions. She got my coffee order right and was super friendly. I'm so glad they use metro chai, my favorite. A great way to start the day!

  4. Coffee here is good but the donuts are $4..  Dough donuts are $2.50 at Dough. I understand maybe a 50 cent mark up but $4??  Also it's so quiet in here literally everyone can hear your full conversation. I prefer places with music on the louder side because if I'm meeting up with a friend I don't want everyone eavesdropping on everything I have to say. This place has potential, but It's not yet somewhere I think of to meet with friends, even though it's currently the closet spot to me.

  5. Unfortunately, I feel compelled to write this update.

Coffee is in their name and their coffee is bad. It's bitter, acidic and hard to swallow. I even have a free coffee coupon for Burly and I don't want to use it.

I recently purchased a bag of their beans, the dark sumatra, and either it was a dud bag or some of the worst tasting beans that have entered my apartment (read: worse than Folgers and/or Dunkin Donuts). My sister commented on how bad the coffee was… my spouse commented on how the coffee was nasty (and he's no complainer)… there was no getting around it. I tried doctoring it with almond milk – but my glass still went down the drain.

The baked goods (Monk's Meat, Dough, etc…) are still good. But not the coffee.

  6. My sister  just moved in the area. Although  I  am  not a stranger  too these neck of the woods. Even though the neighborhood  changing drastically., I could only imagine  what is next.  This is a happy  environment. , you can feel it asap once entering.

  7. Another awesome coffee shop in Besstuy. There are so many but Burly is a great addition due to its location on DeKalb. Many of the other shops are further down. They serve Dough doughnuts and Brooklyn brew. It has a very spacious and open feel with plenty of seating. WIFI and great lighting. A great addition!

  8. absolutely love having this coffee shop, despite its contrast to all the other local shops its just really great coffee.

BEWARE of the cold brew, just half a cup will have your heart racing, feet tapping and mind speeding a mile a minute.

The chai latte is good and my favorite are the iced soy lattes (or the iced dirty soy chai if I'm feeling extra yuppity).  The baristas are super friendly and really just GET caffeine addiction, they just understand. They'll give you an extra shot if youre cranky and ask for it, and they send you off with a blessing.

Of course, it should also be noted that they also sell Dough doughnuts…..nothing else needs to be said here.
