I do really love this little spot in Bedstuy.
I discovered it maybe two years ago on a date. It wasn't my choice, but I was delighted when I walked in the door. Cute, friendly & local little spot that you could easily miss walking by.
Decidedly designy, superb menu, and quite an amazing beer & wine list too. I had a woodstalk Sando once when I was here & was blown away. Yum. Another time I was here I had a grilled cheese. I don't know if they still make those tho.
Despite it's name, they do serve beer & wine, so don't worry your little yelp heads about that. The beer is a rotating menu. You'll see it right on the chalkboard standing at the counter. Unfortunately I didn't note down which one I had. 🙁 I think it was a white ale of some kind.
I go here all the time and the girl who takes the orders and payment is so sweet she really makes you want to keep coming back. I've only ever had an almond croissant to eat but the coffee is good and reasonably priced.
Ummmm so how have I lived super close to this place for almost two years and have just discovered this coffee bar recently? That I don't know. This place is super cute! Right on the corner of Greene, the prettiest street in the neighborhood, and up and coming Franklin ave! The hours appear to vary, at least each time I've been there. Once I went on a Sunday when I thought they were closing early, and they stayed open for another hour since so many people were still there. Besides coffee they have wine and I would say they probably have a few other alcoholic beverages as well. Now it is pretty small so if you're going in the winter there is no guarantee that you'll get a table or can stick around. Honestly you probably won't get a table, but they have bar seats as well and in the summer you can sit outside. Overall the staff is friendly and it's a really cute spot. This would be a great place to take a date so you can sit and talk and get to know each other.
Best iced coffee I've ever had! It was the prefect treat for a long walk through Williamsburg. On the way back we stopped here again for beers and it was such a nice relaxed atmosphere. Only about half the tables were full and everybody was just quietly reading or studying. They (at the time) had a Hibiscus flavoured beer that I've desperately wanted to find ever since and haven't been able to… sadly a bit of a mirage..
Last time I was in New York, I was with friends, who wanted to go out for coffee to this local coffee shop.
I was in luck. They also served beer, so I skipped the coffee and had a beer. I can't remember what kind of beer that I had. It was a craft beer on draft.
Everyone else had a coffee drink, and they enjoyed them.
I enjoyed this place very much. It's a nice place to hang with friends and grab a beer or a coffee.
Would definitely come back if I'm in the area. I was at a work retreat near by and we all decided to take a coffee break. It was sweltering outside and so I got the iced hibiscus mint tea with just a splash of simple syrup I could have drank this all day. It was cool, refreshing, and absolutely delicious. The space is pretty cute as well, although it is small so when it's crowded there isn't a lot of space to move around. There are a couple benches outside if you prefer to enjoy your refreshments al fresco.
Honestly, this is nothing more than a hipster, overpriced, Ponzi scheme under the guise of a coffee shop. You'll find yourself paying $4.00 for a small iced coffee and adding a $1.00 if you want almond milk. I'm not a coffee expert but I do know that paying $5.00 for a small iced coffee is a rip off.
Let's do a comparison to America's #1 love: Starbucks. For the same size, (grande 16 oz), I can get a dark roast iced coffee with almond milk for a total of $2.45. Now die hards may be thinking: Bedford Hill's quality is unmatched because their coffee is gluten free, vegan, environmentally friendly, fair trade and everything else under the sun, but I'd rather pay $2.45 than $5.00 for the same thing. I can't reasonably pay double the price for a coffee that just isn't worth it.
It's ultimately your choice. Spend your money as you please but do it knowing the money you'll be paying.
Let's be clear, The Egg Sando is the best breakfast sammich I've ever eaten. It's like amazingly well made with a perfect mix of flavors and presentation that'll make you want to eat two when you really only need half of one. If you're a fan of carne, add the miso bacon for a salty kick on the back end of every bite
It's a small spot, as most Brooklyn places are, and that means you'll probably eat and go (and leave big groups at home) but if you come early the morning crowd is usually in and out so you can sit in a window and people watch OR hit one of the benches outside if the weather is being agreeable. A big plus is they don't allow laptops during the lunch hours so you can share tables and meet someone new and munch on something delicious.
The staff is friendly and even offers great suggestions for drinks because the coffee bar is simple yet massive in the choices. All the modern choices for the hungry whether you love bacon or eschew its presence. The menu for food is incredibly simple but when everything is good you don't need a million choices
