Walking along Hillside Avenue in search of good Indian food/dessert, we decided to try the food at the Sunshine Grill & Restaurant.
Like many ethnic restaurants, the Sunshine Grill can be considered a "no frills" restaurant where you're paying for the food and not the service. I agree with other yelpers that for whatever reason, the food is served cold and microwaved warm for dining customers.
Not realizing our food was cold until we arrived home, the chicken biryani with side orders of chicken, beef and lamb kabibs were actually very good after a few minutes in microwave. The Gulab dessert balls were also good.
Several yelpers complaint that the food is old (as in sitting unheated on the counter) and have questioned the cleanliness. It's been over an hour since we ate the food and there are no signs of needing to be near a toilet.
We do plan to order takeout again and try the other food items. On the next visit, we'll also ask why is the food cold and hopefully get a reasonable answer.
For decent Indian/Afghan meal at a very reasonable price, Sunshine Grill gets three yelp stars…
I'm not sure where the negative reviews are coming from for this restaurant. I had my wedding (two huge events for over 300 people) catered from here and they did a phenomenal job. I have come here to pick up food for house parties and each time it has been tasty, flavorful, decently priced-they even offer to warm up the food for you before you take it home so its easier for you to serve! I have come here with family and friends and my wife to sit in and eat, each time not being disappointed. From simple naan and kebab, to biryani, tikka boti, chicken makhani (butter chicken) to their ras malai, I am a huge fan of theirs. They have maintained their food quality standards and have not ripped me off any time. Food has an authentic Karachi taste, spicy, good masala, meat cooked well, and the rice isn't over/under done, I will definitely continue to come here.
