there's an older bigger Rite Aid on Avenue D a block down (south). it's closing. the staff from that store is moving to this store. they are moving the stock from that old store into this new store.
a much newer cleaner space. the store seems a bit disorganized–mostly bc the store was moving stock into the new location during its first week's opening. of course i went in here to get some GE lightbulbs to which an employee said they didn't have any and wouldn't have any until the stock from the old store was stocked into the new store. i was going to ask why they bothered opening the store is basic household items were missing. but whatevz. the store doesn't seem well organized (the planogram aka retail layout is strange). in terms of product variety they are trying to fir the same amount of selection into a small space…this will likely be confusing and frustrating to customers, but we can always hold out hope. this location feels a lot cleaner than the last, so one can hope that they keep it up.
there are number of cashier spots but only one was really working the line at this newer location which was the problem at the old location…lines would build up and only one or two cashiers would be open with other employees roaming the floor. the employees from the old location are at this one. it's weird how they refuse to have cashiers on hand to zip through the line.
the staff seem to be competent and work hard, but there seems to be a lot of counterproductive legacy behavior from the old location as well as poor management at Rite Aids in the EV area that I don't know if this location will ever operate like Rite Aids in other parts of the city or the 'burbs.
i may re-review this location in a few months to see if things improve, but i doubt it. also one can hope that they stop offering time-suckage services that create huge lines like Western Union, etc.
there are many other pharmacy (chain and local) as well as convenience stores in the area so hopefully this Rite Aid gets its act together or gets undercover reviewed by corporate constantly as they are missing huge opportunities for biz in the East Village and ABC City area.
doesn't drop mic bc they'll put a price tag on it and sell it back to me. zzz i out.
