Even though rolled ice cream is the new black – I think this place is pretty good. The ingredients seem fresh and it's of course super fun watching your ice cream rolls get made.
There's definitely room for improvement in how slow they are at getting customers in and out. This is NYC, let's go! And also some room for improvement on expanding the menu with different flavors. But other than that, we were pleased with what we ordered and the amount of ice cream we got.
Extremely friendly staff who were all very quick to answer questions. Ice cream was very well made, and i'm glad i was able to stumble upon this place!
Unimpressed.
Was it yogurt or was it ice cream? I'm not too sure what they were going for but it was a miss for me.
Tried one of their pre-curated menu options, Black Sesame and was thoroughly disappointed. I hate to compare shops but 10Below's presentation and overall taste could not compare to this shop.
The black sesame flavor failed to shine through and the ice cream/yogurt mixture was not creamy and tasted a bit ice-y. Almost like watered down milk.
The mochi didn't help the case of this sad cup of whatever it was.I felt like I was served old mochi, stale and dry. (YUCK!)
Needless to say, I didn't finish the cup.
Riding the rolled ice cream wave in NYC…
The ones I tried:
– Unique Dragon: I thought this would be my favorite, but the dragon fruit yogurt base actually didn't stand out among the other flavors. It sure is beautiful though!
– Good Crazy Matcha: my favorite of the night. The green tea base had an ever so slightly bitter flavor that I always look for, and the lychee, whiled canned, went very well with it.
– Black Sesame: the black sesame base was very good, the mochi added some nice chewiness.
Good service. Reasonable lines. The only suggestion I have is to lower the AC because we all froze off our rears in there.
2nd time back was OK.. In 2015, this was the go to shop for rolled ice cream. The exceptional, friendly service has not changed.
Ferrer-Roll Rocher $6.50 – Ice cream was OK, but consistency did not hold up to our expectations. There was only 1 ice cream machine open at the time. By the time our 2nd order was ready, the rolls started to melt into cylinders. I thought the ferrer-roll was overly sweet (perhaps too much Nutella drizzle). A couple minutes in the rolls melted into a cup of soup. Sadly, I was unable to finish my ice cream this time around.
Would consider a visit back when the technique/quality of the rolls improve.
One of my favorite places for rolled ice cream. They have a great menu with premade combinations and flavors that might seem a bit odd but they definitely compliment each other. You also have the option to make your own as well. Besides ice cream, they have healthy juices, smoothies, and bowls.
My absolute favorites are the dragonfruit and the firecracker. I love the flavor of the dragonfruit and the color of the rolls are to die for. Firecracker is fun because of the poprocks candy that is mixed in the ice cream.
A must try for rolled ice cream!
Really underwhelming when it comes to flavor…
I got the double flavor and unlimited toppings, a promotion that they run till 8/11/2016 for their one year anniversary.
The service was friendly and fun, I walked into an empty shop, and decided to do my own creation, yes they rolled it in front of me, but when I tried the ice cream and toppings I was underwhelmed by the flavor and quality… I haven't been to 10below to compare, but "I CE ny" was definitely better.
I'll have to read some more reviews, and see what's really popular here, because thus I'm not getting the hype.
I'll edit my review later, I didn't want to Forget my experience here.
Came across their 'off the menu' ice cream roll combo called Double Fun in the Sun, which is a combination of mango and dragon fruit ice cream, and decided to give it a try since I'd been hearing rave reviews about Juicy Spot ever since the ice cream roll craze hit NYC. Unfortunately, neither the experience nor the ice cream really delivered.
I'm not sure if it is due to inexperience, inefficiency, or the fact that they only have two ice cream slabs to work with, but the employees were realllyyyy slowww. I think we waited half an hour or more for one cup of ice cream!!! I'd definitely recommend coming at an off hour if you don't have that much time to kill.
The ice cream roll was super cute and totally Instagram worthy, but it was also super bland. It was neither sweet nor tart… It really didn't taste like anything, tbh. We decided that we couldn't really taste the mango or the dragonfruit because both were overpowered by the milky taste of the base. I checked in too late on Yelp to discover that we could have added a free topping – which might have helped with the lack of flavor – but overall I was pretty disappointed with the taste of the dessert.
Also, there is an $8 credit card minimum, which is super annoying because all ice cream rolls are $6, so you kind of have to order something else… We ended up trying the hangover smoothie, which was super healthy tasting but not really my cup of tea. However, my friend really enjoyed it!
