  1. Crack Pie is probably the only thing I keep coming back for.  It's a slice of sweet goodness that will run you 5.50.  The first 3 ingredients are Sugar, Butter, Brown Sugar….lol.  So yeah, you can't eat it all the time, but def take a bite on cheat day!

  2. Ehh. First off, the store is on 15 West 56th Street and the numbers are in black, along with the background so it's very hard to see. The name of the store is also exceedingly small and should really be on the storefront top like every other store, rather than on the side. I took off stars for this and for the price. It's priced so outrageously that two little cups cost a little under $13. That's crazy – the Thai ice cream roll places have servings triple the size and it's only 50 cents more in price.

We ordered the regular cereal milk soft serve with cornflake crunch. There was some of the actual cereal in the ice cream, which we enjoyed. However, I'm pretty sure my cup had a hole on the seam because it kept leaking from the side. By itself, the cornflake crunch on top was a little salty which made it taste somewhat like a brittle.

  3. I had purchased a cake from here for a friends Super Bowl Sunday party and it turned out to be the party favorite!

I had only heard good things about this place so I decided to give it a try. I chose the 6 in Chocolate Malt Cake ($38). They say it serves about 8-12 people which I agree with because it is pretty tall. The cake itself was delicious!

I have also tried their ice cream and recently a friend gave me one of their kookies. Both are delicious and I am definitely going to go back and this time I will take pictures to post!

  4. I have mixed feelings about the Milk Bar–I love some items and am not a big fan of others.  This trip, I tried the cereal milk soft serve with crunches toppings and the corn cookie.  I LOVED the cereal milk soft serve–it really did taste like cereal milk! But I was not a fan of the corn cookie–it did taste like cornmeal, but I didn't love it.

  5. Milk Bar's concoctions are no doubt, composed of some very unique combinations. I'll give them that, but I have yet to discover something on the menu that I really like. I first came to this location to try the much raved about crack pie. This small, neon-lit, bakery kiosk looks cool, but they seem to have a smaller selection than other Milk Bars.

Crack Pie – $5.50 per slice
I'm not a fan. I haven't smoked any crack in my life, so perhaps I haven't done the proper due diligence to rate this pie. The pie filling is essentially all caramel, so it felt like I was eating straight up caramel. It was just too sweet. Maybe I'm biased, because I'm not a fan of how cloyingly sweet and sticky caramel is. But if you like caramel and you want the taste of sugar lining the inside of your mouth and your teeth, then you'll probably like this pie.

Compost Cookie – $2.25 per cookie
A typical cookie has butter, sugar, flour, and some flavoring agents. This one's got pretzels, potato chips, coffee, oats, graham cracker, butterscotch, and chocolate chips. Despite all those ingredients, it was underwhelming. When Mr. Joy shared this cookie with me, I thought I was just eating a regular chocolate chip cookie. I was surprised when he listed off the ingredients, because I couldn't taste them. I guess it was a little salty and I picked up on some oat texture, but I was oblivious to everything else. I think this is the result of too many ingredients canceling out each others' flavors. If I try the cookie again, I'll remind myself to be more diligent in tasting it.

With so many items on Milk Bar's menus, I probably just haven't yet discovered the treats that appeal to my taste buds. However, Milk Bar's treats are pricey, even compared to other fancy shmancy bakeries. 6 inch cakes are a whopping $42. I would be interested in trying the pork bun, but that's also pricey at an eyebrow-raising $8. So the price points deter me from returning to purchase anything for myself.
Other people really like their cookies, so I'll still pick up some Compost cookies for gifts. If you love the Milk Bar cookies, or the crack pie, or whatever else they have here, but you don't live near a Milk Bar, then you'll be happy to know that they also ship their desserts. They also post their recipes and sell their cookie mixes at Target.

  6. NYC ice cream stop #2:
I've always wanted to go to Milk Bar, because I'm a fan of David Chang and Christina Tosi. She  was the 2015 recipient of the James Beard Outstanding Pastry Chef award. The location has two David Chang restaurants located in the same address. Downstairs is Ma Peche and Fuku+ is in the back.

The line wasn't too long, but it moved slowly. There was only one person working the counter. I know that the crack pie is popular, but it seemed too sweet for me. I ordered the compost cookie and cereal milk soft serve with cornflakes. The compost cookie was ok, maybe it would've been better if I ordered it freshly made rather than the packaged one. I enjoyed the cereal milk and the added texture the cornflakes gave it. There are more cornflakes at the bottom of the cup. I'm glad I checked this place off my list!

  7. Yum! Yum yum yum. This place lived up to the hype. Super cute little shop, very small, with the menu written in chalk along one wall and the other wall covered in delicious souvenirs you can purchase, like Crack Pie mix and instructions to make your own Cereal Milk.

The line was only about four people deep when we got there (around 4pm on the 4th of July, a Monday) so we didn't have to wait very long. We ordered "the works" (I think that's what it was called) for $16. This included a cookie, a slice of the famous Crack Pie, one cereal milk soft serve ice cream dipped in corn flakes, and a package of the b'day truffles. We split it among the three of us, and oh boy, was it delicious. My favorite thing was definitely the soft serve cereal milk ice cream. The corn flake topping was just salty enough to really make it perfect. I thought the Crack Pie was pretty good, maybe a little too sweet. It tasted like butterscotch, for the most part, and seemed more like a "bar" than a "pie". I didn't get to try the cookie or the truffles (both went to others in our group) but they looked delicious and I heard very good things. Definitely worth a visit, even if it's been talked up and you're worried it won't live up to expectations!

  8. So being from out of town I had seen a few friends post this and "Kith treats" soft serve cereal milk. I decided I must try it myself, the concept is that they put cereal in milk and drain the cereal out and use that now flavored milk to make soft serve, aka the milk bar. I walked in and ordered the fruity pebbles cereal milk soft serve, I wanted the corn flake topping but they were out so I settled for chocolate chips. My first complain is that they give you a shot glass sized cup but fill the thing like you ordered a large cone at Dairy Queen. Within 2 minutes it's dripping down your hand and the chocolate was melting on my hand as well. Kind of sucks, but the first few bites were really good, I was impressed, then by the end it started to get really salty. Overall I wasn't really impressed with this place, I'd probably go back for the novelty and give it another shot but overall this isn't something to get super excited about.
