Ladybird Bakery

“I love the Brooklyn Blackout, but my very favorite is the chocolate cake with the vanilla frosting with the chocolate pudding center.”

“Blackout cupcake is very special but you must let it get to room temp before eating (which is a problem with many of their cakes).”

“The texture of the cake is very dense and the cream cheese frosting is very rich and decadent, the way a cake should be in my opinion.”

  1. We ordered a large chocolate blackout cake with the flowers which came out to $46.  It was the best chocolate black out cake ever! The cake was moist and the chocolate wasn't as rich as I thought it would be! If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend it!!

  2. Once again Ladybird bakery has once again completed another birthday. This time it was for my birthday. I wasn't aware of what the inside was since it was a surprise. It was a really moist, insanely moist, chocolate cake with pastry cream. So delicious that it would be dangerous if another slice was sitting front of you! The exterior of the cake was fabulous like always. This is always my go-to store for birthday cakes!

  3. I've been here twice now, once for early coffee and a treat, and then again last night for cupcakes.  Ladybird has this real homey vibe to it, it doesn't feel sterile or cold, it feels like your mom opened a bakeshop and that is wonderful.  Their scones and breakfast goods are delicious, they have a huge variety  of them.  They have tons of tarts that I am dying to try, but the bf and I have disagreeing viewpoints on tart toppings, so I will have to go when I have a friend who will split a key lime or coconut treat with me, bc they look delicious.

Last night we got 2 cupcakes; marble and red velvet.  Now, normally I am a vanilla cupcake with sprinkles gal.  I am KNOWN for this, but that marble one CRIED OUT TO ME from the case and I had to have it.  It was the softest, moistest, cupcake I have ever had.  The frosting was LIGHT and buttery and made of magic.  And, bonus: coconut sprinkled on top (I win! The bf didn't even complain about it, sucker!)

It does feel SLIGHTLY pricey to me, which is what kept me from the 5th star, but I understand cost of doing business, etc etc etc.  This however will not stop me from returning.

  4. Very cute bakery in Park Slope.  They have a little corner with children's books.  No shame in reading one of those while sipping on their iced tea and waiting for the Brooklyn Blackout cupcake to warm up.  It seems that their cakes are stored at a colder temperature compared to the Brooklyn Blackout at the Two Little Red Hens in Upper East Side.

  5. I wanted to eat EVERYTHING in here.

From the outside, it doesn't look like much. As for the inside, there's not too much either. There's limited seating – room for maybe 10 people at a time. But don't let that stop you from coming here.

THEIR BLACKOUT CUPCAKE. I can honestly that it was the best chocolate cupcake I've ever had. The cake itself is rich, and the filling and heavy cream cheese icing just make it that much more decadent. I couldn't believe how chocolate-y that $4 cupcake was.

If you're a little too intimidated by that, or if you don't want something as sweet – the carrot cake is a great alternative. They use cream cheese icing, so it is still fairly sweet. It goes so well with the moistness of the cake part.

Lastly – you can get a small cup of milk for $1 to go along with everything! I definitely want to come back. All of the other pastries and goodies looked so appetizing, even at the end of the day!

  6. Tasty enough, but overpriced.

Disappointed to see that they've adopted the unfortunate trend of shoving an iPad in your face asking for a tip if you use a card to pay. I HATE this!! No, you don't get a tip for putting a cupcake in a box. Plus, it is unfair to ask only some customers (the ones using a card) to give a tip. Prices are high enough–owners, you should think about raising wages.

  7. I was really pleased with my visit to Ladybird. Chocolate cake was requested by the birthday boy, so I hopped in here early Sunday morning to try and snag a cake.

They had a small, but perfect selection. Nothing over the top. I chose Brooklyn Blackout and was on my way. It was a hefty $45 or so, but the cake did not disappoint. It traveled to NJ with me and was as moist as ever. It's very chocolatey and purely divine.

Super happy with the service here and will definitely be back.

  8. Came here after dinner for dessert and saw that they had a super chocolates cupcake called the "Brooklyn Black-Out" so we HAD to get it!

The Brooklyn Blackout Cupcake definitely stays true to its name. For anyone who loves chocolate, this is definitely the way to go. For me, 2 bites and I'm done! Way too sweet for me, but I did really enjoy those two bites.

The Carrot Cupcake on the other hand, is my kind of cupcake! A delicious cream cheese frosting and the cake was dense, flavorful, and just the right amount of sweetness for me!

My girlfriend also got us a cup of milk for a dollar, which was well worth it!
