The food is okay. My eggs over easy were a little overcooked, and the corn beef hash was too salty. Home fries were great. Coffee bleh.
You don't go to the Cobble Hill Coffee shop for the food…you go for the atmosphere and the experience. It's weird for me to give 5 stars to a place with so-so noms, but I could eat here EVERY day for the rest of my life.
Continuous refills of coffee? Wonderful. The old-school counter with stools? SO GREAT. It's not pricey, and it's a real trip.
I remember when Imy coffee was poured, on its little saucer. I took a sip, looked at my roommate, and said, "Now that's damn good coffee."
It wasn't, but Agent Cooper sure would be proud.
I really enjoy coming here for breakfast. The owner is really nice and greets you. No wait! Surprisingly when you go have breakfast at 1230pm. We ordered the big breakfast deluxe and extra sides of home fries. Yes it filled us both up as french toast was included as well and it was only $10.95 feeding two! I also wanted a side order of manhattan clam chowder which was also delicious. I've been here before and will be back again!
Nice strong coffee.
Funny accented Greek owner working his ass off.
Bacon, egg, and cheese on an English muffin not fucked up for some stupid reason. Now we are talking.
How did I skip this place for so many years? I'm upset with myself for not stopping by.
I love diners and this place is exactly what I needed. Hopefully they never get pushed out by some modern American farm to table place, because a good diner deserves to stay.
What you get here is undeniably what you had hoped for. Everything imaginable is on the menu, and everything I've had has been good. The prices are reasonable, and the service is fast and friendly.
The name is a bit confusing, it's not really a "coffee shop," though they do serve coffee. It's also covered by scaffolding or an awning, making it seem dark and dreary which can be a bit of a turn off, but don't let that fool you. It's what's on the inside that counts.
I want to love this place so so much cause the staff here (especially the owner) is so awesome. They are attentive without being overbearing and usually the conversations that go on in the restaurant are downright hilarious. There are some craaaazy people who roll through the restaurant.
So despite the low-key comfort and the great staff, this place is only mediocre because consistency is missing. I've had some pretty good meals (eating in and delivery) but I've also had some not so good ones. The last dining experience of sour chicken made me decide it's time for a break. Wah wah.
2.5 stars…When this place took over the Donut House they really cleaned up the place and made it look great, they started strong and the food and service was an improvement. Now that they're in their daily groove everything has gone down and the result is a sub-par typical diner. The place is still pretty clean but it's a cramped busy diner with mediocre food. The menu is of the typical diner and the prices are dirt cheap but the food is pretty disappointing and the service from the Mexican waiters are also pretty horrible. The only good thing I must say about their food is they love to use lots of fresh fruit (especially strawberries) which is a good touch. For a couple prime examples are last time I was here I asked for my bacon to be well-done/crispy and a blueberry muffin on the side and much later on they informed me all they had were bran and corn muffins (which were very dry) and I got limp undercooked bacon. This experience is about par for them, definitely not an isolated incident.
