Williamsburg Smorgasburg – Saturday

“Lobster sandwich is a must, as is the Ramen burger (in that order since the lobster is so delicate & the Ramen burger so heavy).”

“The pulled pork at Mighty Quinns and the chicken at Buttermik Biscuit are all worthy mentions as well…”

“Get a lobster roll or taco to mix it up and if you are a grilled cheese fan, grab a melt from the milk truck.”

  1. Wow, what a great treat for a foodie like me, the "New York Times" calls it the "Woodstock of eating", and I call it the mosh pit of food!

Bring cash and appetite, and enjoy the spectacular view of the river and city.

The banana pudding and the fried mozzarella sticks were my highlights this time around,

Talking about banana pudding, I've got the MUNCHIES now! This was the best banana pudding I've ever had! So thank you smorgasburg wilamsburg for helping me with my food addiction.

See you'll next week. Smorgasburg vs beach, smorgasburg wins!

    _____________

I believe smorgasburg is the best thing that happened to the food scene in NYC since David chang's Momofuku (high-end  ramen scene).

  2. Always good to have food fairs for summer weathers.  Food is overpriced but expected. Popular food also has huge lines which is also expected.  A-OK!

  3. So what's to say about  the Smorgosburg food and experience that hasn't already been said. Extraordinarily creative global fusion food concepts on steroids. This is the first generation to really have compete access to global cuisine, ingredients and related information at a time when diversity is celebrated, rather than just accepted or tolerated, so the leash is off for this generation to fearlessly reinvent our gustatory future.

I think it's appropriate to also give a huge shout out to the people of Smorgosburg and the passion, commitment, creativity and energy they bring us each week.  Hailing from just about every ethnic background and upbringing, they are a broadly diverse, talented group of creative geniuses pushing the boundaries of global fusion and bringing us delicious and exciting next-gen cuisine.  As a food industry executive of many decades I can tell you that you do not see this intensity of food concept creativity and development in corporate organizations. What you  see, taste and experience at Smorgosburg is the raw energy of culinary evolution (and revolution), and it will only get bigger and better.

These folks commitment and dedication to their craft is infectious, inspirational and impressive.  They are clearly "all in" on their food concept and work tirelessly throughout the day to ensue that the diner receives a best in class food experience from them. Despite being slammed for the majority of the day, they still have time to cheerfully and enthusiastically explain what their food concept/creation is all about and why it's unique and/or special. I truly understand the time and heart they put in and how hard they work.

The people of Smorgosburg are clearly pioneering us into the future of global cuisine. Their delicious food creations and the Smorgosburg experience bring us satisfaction, happiness and joy and  they deserve our recognition, thanks and appreciation for it!

  4. Smorgasburg is an amazing flea market! Great location by the East River , and tons of vendors all around. That riverfront view though! My friend and I came here on a Saturday morning shortly about 30 minutes after it opened, and it was already packed with a huge crowd of people. I guess I went to the right place at the right time. Lots of amazing food choices offering a variety of cuisines, but my mission as an out of state tourist was in search of something specific.

I came for the raindrop cake. It's a clear round piece of jello served in a small wooden bowl shaped like a boat with soybean flour and sugar syrup. This only exists in New York so I knew I just had to stop by for the IG photo op. I hear LA is about to create their own Smorgasburg now so here's hoping a West coast kid like me can go for a second taste.

  5. Three suggestions to anyone going
    1 Go when it opens
    2. Bring cash
    3 GO HUNGRY!!!!

If driving then plan on walking a few blocks, I did not see any parking garages around, then again I wasn't looking for any.

Line for Ramen burger was long, and got longer during our 2 hour visit, so if you want it then go when it opens and wait on line.

Ate a pulled pork sandwich from Mighty Quins, $10 for a large sandwich and it was tasty and HUGE!!!!. Lobster roll was a little pricey at $19, but very fresh lobster. Oyster tent had raw clams,  half a dozen little neck clams for $10, opened and cleaned right in front of us, add some hot sauce and lemon and it was fantastic!! Very fresh!!!!

Next to lobster roll  tent in back is a place I believe called Fobuon. We had braised beef that was in wrapped in a scallion pancake, which was very good.

If looking for BBQ, Asian style food, and tacos done about 40 different ways then you will have plenty to choose from.

Beer anf wine sold in a 21 and over area
Ice cream, doughnuts,  shaved ice for dessert
Plenty of lemonade type drinks as well

Going back in a few weeks!!!!

  6. I've been waiting to join the Smorgasbord experience and it did not disappoint! A couple of us shared a the pulled pork taco from Goa taco, chicken and biscuit from bee hive (i think, or bee and honey? ), lobster roll from lukes, ice cream sandwich from the good batch, wowfulls, cakes from gooey & co, and dough donut!  I'm thoroughly impressed worth the # of vendors, the food was all just ok – with exception of goa taco, which was amazing! It was by far our favorite! Wasn't impressed with any of the desserts – especially the good batch (i prefer soft cookies). Still would come back… so much more to try!

  7. Smorasburg has been on my NYC bucket list for awhile and was stoked that my family was willing to go along my foodventures.

We went early, and I do recommend doing that if there is a popular item you've been craving. My sister had her heart set on Wooly's and immediately went there. It was a good thing she went right away because right after she fell in line, people started flocking over for some of that delicious snow goodness.

My favorite thing that I ate at Smorgasburg was Jian Bing. It's a Beijing & Shanghai savory crepe filled with beef, egg, chilis, hoisin sauce, cilantro, scallions & fried wonton. The flavors and texture of this crepe was awesome! This is definitely worth trying.

Other items my family and I got to sample: various types of lemonades (mango, basil, cucumber, etc), two kinds of porchetta sandwiches, chili mango on a stick (messy as hell to eat), Mexican corn on a stick, nachos, blistered shishito peppers, a coconut donut and fried chicken. As you can see, sharing is the way to go so you can experience all the various vendors at Smorgasburg.

Aside from the delicious food options, the view of the city is beautiful and I recommend bringing a mat or towel to lay out on the grassy areas.

Note – There are many vendors that do take card but do bring cash as a back up.

  8. BEST place EVER!! Overwhelmingly good! A great way to spend a weekend with friends and/or family. I've only been to the one in Williamsburg and it's always been an amazing time! It's on the water with a great view to eat all of the delicious foods offered with so many different vendors.

Do keep in mind that for some reason it feels extremely hotttter than the average temp outside. Maybe it's because it's so packed with people that it's overwhelming, but it always feels 20 degrees hotter there—so definitely stay well hydrated! Luckily for you, there are many diff. Cool drink options! The coconut water is so so, not worth your money, but definitely looks cool for an Instagram picture!

Do yourself a huge favor and start off with the mozzarella sticks from the big mozz. They're stationed close to where you walk in on the front not too far from Raman burgers and frites French fries. They don't give enough sauce on the side, but the crispiness, and amount of cheese and overall quality of mozz sticks are not to be beat! They come with 4 for $10. Well worth it! Topped with some Parmesan cheese! Craving them now!

Frites= awesomeness. Huge and well worth the money as well compared to other venders. $9-$10 depending on type of French fries you get. The only thing I would say was ridiculous was the extra cost of $1 for ketchup on the side as the side of ketchup is tinyyy!! But they were beyond delicious as well!

Stop by and pick up a Goodwich ice cream sandwich. You'll prob. Need to share this…it's pretty big to do it all on your own—although possible!

They also have a new vendor called woolys. Its essentially shaved ice cream! They place whatever flavored ice cream chosen and place it in a machine where the guy shaves it in front of you in a cup and then they add on toppings and a sauce. Doesn't taste watery at all. Very flavorful. I liked the coffee flavor! Comes with a whole thin Oreo on top.

Overall, great activity for the weekend. Make sure you bring cash as most places only take cash. Variety of foods and vendors, and great atmosphere and view! A little pricey, but it's worth the experience!!
