I came here JUST for the kimcheese fries and was thoroughly disappointed.
It was basically waffles fries and lots of cheddar cheese sauce. The kimchi, scallions, and nori were basically a garnish and did not add any flavor to the dish.
Major bummer.
So overhyped 🙁 This place is one of the biggest disappointments ever! I decided to give it 3 chances on different days, locations, & dishes but every time I am super disappointed. Food quality is terrible, always cold, and just not appetizing. I expected more out of these guys…only good thing I can mention is how the service and staff is good/friendly.
Seems like every part of the dish is a disaster…pretty sad to say.
Korilla was a decent place to grab a bite if you don't know how to make basic Korean food.
Before you judge the harshness of this review please understand it's coming from a natural born Korean who has literally lived off of this exact food day on in with out expectations of it being difficult to make nor exotic to eat.
It's pretty filling in terms of portions that you get, but if you wanna talk sanitary and quality?…you won't get it here.
The place could of been kept a little cleaner, like at least wipe up the counter tops where a lot of food was sitting, it even made my snaps of the food feel slightly embarrassing to post. And the food was sitting out for a while, trust it from a Korean, it wasn't as fresh as it should of been.
For the pros though, the food portions was pretty good. They gave a lot and you have your choice between the difference sauces ie. Korilla, spicy ect
And it's a bit healthier than most places you will find.
If you want something filling and quick on the run, but aren't expecting high quality then I say go for it. I would return if I was around the area, but unfortunately it isn't anything special that I felt I couldn't make myself.
Korilla once was used as catering for a corporate event i attended. OMG best Korean style food ever…and its from a food truck. the sauce is to die for. I can't speak highly enough. My mouth waters thinking about it.
GOOD FOR: Lunch
MENU SELECTION: They make it real simple for you and it works like many restaurant lines these days 1) choose a burrito or bowl (like you would at Chipotle) 2) choose a protein to add into your base 3) choose a topping (cheese or pico) 4) choose veggies and 5) choose a sauce
FOOD: I ordered the Sticky Rice with Bulgogi. The portion size was fair compared to what I paid. The rice was a bit soggy from the salad's contents, but the overall dish was pretty good. The meat was tender and the sauce was a nice addition. The flavors of the meat and salad with the riced mixed well.
SERVICE: The order was prepared very quickly and from that I mean it seemed like everything was prepped ahead of time so all they had to do was scoop the options into the tupperware. There's an obvious pro and con to that, but the food quality was good so I couldn't complain here.
I remember the glorious day of the Korilla truck, where people will line up for hours just to get a taste of their tacos and rice bowl. I was one of those people back in the days, I remember them dominating the food truck scene in New York back in the days and that it was a big deal when you tell someone that you actually got Korilla and people would get excited talking about them.
So when I see their truck at the FiDi today with no one on line, I hopped on it immediately, hoping to relive those happy Korilla memories.
It's a little sad to say but as many other Yelpers have accurately put it, the food just ain't like how it used to be. The Korilla truck I remember were a bunch of super friendly guys, happy, smiling and greeting you when you are by their truck. They will gladly explain their menu to you in detail. They will pile so much meat into your tacos/ rice bowl that you can have two meals from it. The meats were flavorful and got a good kick to it. They will make some small talks with you while you wait.
Gone were those days.
Today I was there, I see a bunch of grumpy guys that greets you with "what do you want?" people who were trying to figure out what to get were looked down upon by the faces behind the counter. Meat were given at a minimum, you'll still get plenty of rice and vegetable but no meat, to make matter worst, the meat were dry, tough and not very flavorful. The people working there would rather talk to each other than to socialize with you unless you are a female and attractive.
What happened to the Korilla I used to love and look forward to seeing? Where are those guys who used to be passionate about giving the best customer service they got? Where are those oh-so flavorful meats you used to pump out? I'm not going to ask about the portion because I can understand inflation but where are those pride that you once had when you dominated the food truck scene in New York City?
Looking forward to seeing the old Korilla again!
Very disappointed. I got chicken for my rice bowl and the amount of chicken was just saddening. It was mostly rice. The side veggies are meh. The hottest sauce (K'illa) was also disappointing – not really spicy at all. I'm half Korean – I know what I'm talking about, and this barely scratches the surface. The sauce that the chicken was marinated in – makes me feel like I could be eating rat meat and I wouldn't be able to the tell the difference at that point. I also felt like they were really half-assing everything. I get it – gotta get the line moving, but seriously? Totally unimpressive service with completely BLAH food. Never again. I don't even like Chipotle much but I'd prefer that over Korilla. With that said, good job on bumpin' 90s rap near my work area – refreshing but a bit oddly placed. All in all though? THEY SUCK. Perhaps I should've tried it years ago when the hype might've been real.
I'm so conflicted with Korilla, as I was a huge fan when they were solely a truck, and I don't nag constantly that "they're not as good as they used to be." When they only had their truck, the staff was small and they were really kind, always piling on extras when they had the opportunity. The bowls could fill up two of my meals and every ingredient was fresh and delicious.
However, now I've tried it twice after they've expanded and the meat is tough and flavorless. The bulgogi still remains my favorite meat, but the kalbi was so tough to bite into.
