Gansevoort Market

“Like a smaller-scale version of the Chelsea market but without the crowds and a more select and diverse group of restaurants and goods.”

“So my boss put me on about the BRUFFIN watching the Wendy Williams Show (I'm so not a fan of that show at all)…”

  1. some very different food vendors right at the bottom of the High Line steps on Gansevoort.  we were already stuffed to the gills from our Ramen-shaved cream-Lebanese bread, but had a great time browsing. if I had to choose it would have been the Thai spicy beef with chilies and the Brussels sprouts  or the fantastic fire oven pizza. reminds me of the Reading market in Phili. I did notice that the air inside was a bit stale and couldn't imagine spending day after day inside…open some doors or windows !!

  2. Despite it's crowd, this is a great place to eat if you're exploring the area or after a long day at Whitney. You can grab a snack, a beverage, a full entree or a dessert, There are tons of options ranging from American to Asian to Italian to trendy French to BBQ. The draw is that the market supports local vendors and regional produce. Simply, you can't really get the same stuff elsewhere.
They also have public restrooms which are a godsend when you're in the city. Also, there's a really charming seating area, with elaborately hipster decor. It's very crowded & noisy, but it's fun and convenient, especially if you're coming with people who are craving different foods.

  3. I worry the new location might die too soon like the last one, due to poor planning and timing and no media promotion whatsoever.

The only way I knew they were open is from the Instagram posts by @thedoughnutproject. They are ready to rock and roll with mini versions of their excellent doughnuts ($2.50), but other parts of the market still are and blatantly look like they're under construction (cover up that empty Big Gay Ice Cream stall or something, it really feels like we are in the middle of a work zone).

I'll be back soon though because the vendor lineup is very solid, and I am especially interested to see what the new menu at Big Gay Ice Cream will look like.

  4. After the Whitney and fun browsing in the designer shops on New Year's Eve Day went here for lunch. Loved it. More intimate than some other food court markets. Lots of samples and nice sellers! Pretty and urban. We had an amazing Italian sub from the stall against back. Sampled the amazing green tea chocolates. New York, New York. Good place! Walk off the chocolate calories on the HighLine! Will return.

  5. Above average rustic trendy food court. This one is not as big or as good as Gotham West but is bigger and better than City Kitchen. The seating area looks very cool too with these vines hanging from the ceiling over it.

The selection of food stalls is pretty diverse – Thai food, sushi, Mexican, Italian, crepes, coffee shop, bakery, gelato, yogurt, teas, etc. However, the offerings here lean more towards snacks or desserts rather than the full meals you can find at Gotham West. This place is still worth checking out though.

  6. Nah…not for me…..been here maybe half a dozen times pre Yelp and always flatters to deceive….

Met some friends over from the UK here this afternoon and it's still the same, touristy yet pretentious at the same time….eaten from quite a few of the concessions and not going to single out any for a particular hard time….Chelsea Market is better (and yes, I just said that.)

  7. A nice little market with my favorite "the doughnut project" shop inside.  Many great lunch choices in a very clean, very nice venue.

  8. Great vibes and a great place to stop by for some grub be it a full meal or a snack. I came in on a Saturday afternoon and it was filled with people. There are multiple vendors of various foods (savory and sweet). Unfortunately, I was only able to visit 2 vendors this time around but I enjoyed it a lot.

M Terranean: I ordered a falalfel bowl and my friend got the chicken shawarma bowl. Each comes with either rice or couscous, fresh cucumber salad, and hummus drizzled on top. We both enjoyed our respective bowls and apparently the chicken shawarma had a pretty strong spicy kick to it.

Crepe Sucre: I love crepes and you can't really go wrong with it.

Seating was a bit hard to find but it was probably because I came on a weekend. The seating area was nicely lit with natural lighting from the exposed window up on top. I definitely would like to make a visit again to try their other vendors (luzzo's and bangkok bar seems to be pretty popular with the crowd).
