  1. We stopped in this place on our way back to our hotel and more importantly for a much needed break from the Midtown chaos.

    The staff were nice enough to offer lots of samples before we finally decided on mango, dark chocolate and salted caramel. It's awesome that you can get unlimited flavors with any size. All the flavors of gelato were very good. The same cannot be said about the hot chocolate. It was watery and bitter. Sadly we could not drink anymore and wasted it.

    This place is a nice quit place to take a break from all of the touristy midtown madness. Come for the refreshing gelato and 86 the hot chocolate.

  2. I found out about Amorino when my coworkers and I happened to be in the neighborhood one day and walked past it. My coworker had tried a different location and highly recommended its gelato scooped in the shape of a flower.

    The best part is – they let you get as many flavors as you want in the cone (or I guess as many as the size of your cone allows). For a small cone ($5.50), I got banana, raspberry, mango, and strawberry sorbet. You can also choose to get a macaron in the center (prob at an extra cost) but I wasn't really in a macaron kind of mood that day.

    They have some interesting flavors like lime and basil sorbet (too much lime for my taste) and blood orange ginger (I love ginger and all but this had a little too much to the point that it was spicy). They'll let you try whatever flavors you want before you buy so that's the great thing – you won't end up worth flavors you don't like.

    It's a little pricey but a good treat every once in a while!

  3. Knocking a star because I was really disappointed by the hot chocolate here. They boast that it's just like the authentic stuff, but it was nowhere near as thick as they make it in Italy – the texture was uneven and soupy, though it had decent flavor and the fresh cream is great. I saw the barista make it from a package. For over $6, pass.

  4. I came here with my boyfriend and friends for dessert since it was very warm and hot outside. This is actually my second time at Amorino Gelato. The first experience was at the location on University Place in Union Square. This location is slightly smaller and less seating areas and it was also very hot and humid inside.

    There were many flavors to choose from, but my boyfriend and I ended up with the following –

    Melon & Banana – I really and truly enjoyed the melon gelato! Possibly one of the best gelatos I've had so far. It wasn't too sweet which I was very happy about it . I've never had melon-flavored gelato, but this was truly a gem! The banana gelato tasted like real gelato, but unlike the melon one, the banana one was on the too sweet side. I actually didn't enjoy it as much.

    Melon & Mango – My boyfriend ordered these two. The mango one was a little tart and a little sweet. He enjoyed both gelato flavors.

    Overall, my friends enjoyed Amorino Gelato especially with their rose shaped gelato on a cone. It's quite creative and beautiful. The experience here was okay, but the seating area just didn't feel like quite enough and it was definitely not the best and most comfortable dessert place.

  5. Pricey, but good. The gelato flavors are fresh and flavorful. I also don't think there's a limit to how many different flavors you can have within a cup.

  6. Who wouldn't fall in love with the combination of "Flower," "Gelato," and "Sorbet"?

    The desserts are offered not only deliciously but also aesthetically. I was amazed 1) by the presentation of my beautiful my icecream cone  2) by the amazing texture of my dessert 3) by the rich ice-cream flavor.

    The staffs allowed us to taste as many flavors as possible before choosing. Also, they allowed us to pick as many flavors as we'd like, and made a beautiful flower-looking cones out of flavors we choose.

    I've got to say this was my best gelato experience. The gelato was super creamy, but definitely not overwhelming.  It was rich in flavor, and tasted even fresh.

    Although this place was little bit pricy, I have to say that the gelato was worth a penny.
    It was pretty, and it was delicious. How can I not fall in love with its gelato?

It was a chilly 30ish degrees when we visited this place back in March, but no one said gelato is reserved for hot days only.  Cone or cup, it doesn't matter.  You pick the size and as many flavors as you like.  I chose the cone, and it boy was it the right choice.  They make a beautiful gelato rose, with each flavor serving as a petal.  I had too many flavors to name, but they were all delicious.  Rich, very rich even for me, so in retrospect, I would've gone with a small instead of a classic, but since I've got a terrible sugar addiction, the phrase small dessert doesn't exist in my vocabulary.  My favorite was probably the coffee.  

    The kiddo got a crepe, with with gelato and caramel (you see he takes after me) and could barely finish half.  It was so sweet. He said he should've skipped the caramel, and had only 1 scoop of gelato.  You see the theme here.  You don't need much.

    We took a dozen gelato macarons to the hotel and gobbled those up in a flash the next day.  If only I could've took some home with me to San Diego.  They were amazing.  They melt really fast, so if it's a hot day, you'll have to eat them immediately.  They wouldn't survive a walk back to any hotel.  

    Prices were incredibly reasonable.  The staff were great.  Really nice and helpful.  There was one lady who was incredibly rude initially.  No smile, no hello, no thank you.  Very much the "Hurry up. You're wasting my time," kinda lady.  However, as we stayed and chatted her up a bit, and after the manager came in and chatted a bit, she totally loosened up and was actually pretty friendly in the end.  

    Now, if they could just wipe down the tables a bit more frequently, they'd be golden.  Just about table we tried to sit at was a sticky hot mess.

  8. When this place opened up on 8th ave in my hood, I had to walk with averted eyes because being a gay in this city is so unforgiving.

    I finally caved and tried it this week because my friend had an ice cream craving after dinner. The line is a bit chaotic and not intuitive since there are two entrances/exits. You actually have to pay first and then give your slip to the other staff to help you with your order.

    A small cup set me back $5.50 with tax. Ouch. But interestingly enough, we were told you can get as many flavors as you want. I never want more than 2 or 3 anyway because the flavors just blend together at that point. The flavors here taste and look like the actual thing they are trying to portray. For example, pistachio is not that vibrant green here, instead a muddled brown more like the actual nut.

    I tried nocciola/hazelnut, fior di latte (fresh cow's milk), and speculoos (cookie butttterrrrr).

    My favorite was the nocciola because the nuttiness was prominent. Overall, I think they are a bit heavyhanded with the sugar so everything tasted a bit too sweet for me. My usual favorite flavor, fior di latte (fresh cow's milk), was a bit too sweet here as well. The speculoos was hard to distinguish in my batch of three but there were nice chunks of cookies in there, which I enjoyed. If getting this, I probably would get a sample or have it on its own to taste it more cleanly.
