I had a Groupon here for for fruits and vegetables and unfortunately it was a very disappointing sight to find the lack of quality produce. I want to believe they arrived fresh, however their ability to store it properly is clearly flawed as everything I bought came out to be very mushy just a few days after bringing it home. This included watermelon, pineapple, bananas, clementines, and mango. The wasabi peas I bought were also stale. Definitely to avoid during the Summer.
Rossman is great for some things. They have a lot of fruit and veggies, but inspect them carefully because I've brought home less than fresh things every once in a while. However, the selection is vast, and they even have some fancier produce items. During my last trip, I brought home some shallots and purple potatoes.
They also have a good selection of their own salads and dips. Rossman's baba ghanoush is amazing! And they have labneh in the yogurt section. They also sell some awesome Turkish bread with za'atar spices. Basically, you want to get your Middle Eastern foods here.
It's certainly not one-stop-shopping at Rossman, but I go there about every other week for produce and specialty foods. Skip the dry goods, but definitely hit up the spreads.
Rossman is definitely a convenient spot to shop for fresh veggies and fruits. Came here and really wasn't expecting much. But when I saw all the great selection, I was certainly please.
Best of all, their pricing is not bad at all. For young fresh kale, I only paid 89 cents a pound. Of course it was the sale price but still…good deal for sure. Their beets were also priced well. Only paid 29 cent/ lb and it was young and fresh.
I'm definitely planning to come back to Rossman more offend, esp when they open late for night owls like myself!
My favorite place to get produce and such for meals. Cheapest place to buy fruits and veggies in the city, I'm sure. Some of the stuff is like "use it tonight", sure, but for the price it absolutely can't be beat. (And not all of it is like that either)
Affordable prices with a good selection but beware of the quality of the produce. Several things started getting moldy and going bad within 4 days of purchase. I might visit again but I would have to buy less and use it up as soon as possible.
prices are good but they dont beat the prices at circus fruits. however the location is more convenient for me so i do stop by on a regular basis. street parking is also usually available right in front of the store. my only gripe is that the fruits outside are usually covered in a thick layer of grime and dust cuz it's so close to the highway. and it hasnt been extremely busy like other supermarkets during the times im there, but there's always a line to pay.
A small Farmers market a little out there but with some great fresh choices in produce. The ladies walking the cash register were friendly and helpful. The prices are decent, I would go again if it wasn't out of the way for me.
I came to Rossman because I had a $25 groupon (paid $13 for it, produce only). Otherwise I don't think I would walk around this part of 3rd Ave (maybe for Brooklyn flea or micro center). Anyhow Rossman is decently close to public transport (R to 25th street – so slow!) and B37 bus on 3rd Ave (infrequent). The key positives here are 1) price – fruits and veggies are cheap especially ones that are still edible but may not be the freshest in the world 2) store is rather larger 3) open 24hours. They do carry organic and other non produce grocery items. One negative is that lines can be long (only 2 cashiers) and systems are not the most modern (for ex, for my groupon redemption, the cashier wrote my number on a cardboard box vs scanning it).
The $25 groupon gets you a lot of produce. If I lived closer I would come frequently but despite the distance still worth the visit.
