  1. The food here is crazy tasty.  Considering that this truck is in the heart of Astoria, it doesn't come as a terribly huge surprise that there are some "Greek" offerings made available; only thing is, these items are "Greek" in name only, with the King of the Taco (truck) transforming said food item into something decidedly more Mexican.  No problems with that, although that was probably the spiciest gyro I had ever eaten in my entire life; and to answer your question… no, I did not order the gyro… my brother did, and he wanted to trade half for half of my burrito (seems a fair deal yeah? plus I was super curious as to how a Mexican gyro tastes like).

Speaking of spicy, when the patron of this food establishment on wheels asks you what kind of sauces you want, beware of the hot sauce.  It does add awesome flavor to whatever you order… but, for your sake, you should add the qualifier that you would only like "a little bit."  What's wrong "widdle Joshie?  Sauce too spicy for you?!?!"  Hey, I'm no pansy when it comes to spicy food (I can probably eat you under the table… wonder if that idiom applies to "eat" as it does to "drink"…).  However, like the hot sauce that you find at the Halal Guys, the spicy here ought to be used sparingly, with caution, and with every effort to avoid contact with your eyes.  And if you must know, I have no problems with putting down the spicy food… but (with the utmost care in not speaking too medically/graphically), my last venture to this place ripped up my insides, and I was rendered quite ineffective at the pick-up basketball game I played the next day.

So just keep my too-much-information of a review in mind if you feel like the best way to demonstrate "nutting/boning up" would be to lather your food here with the hot stuff (i.e. hot sauce).  Remember, "discretion is the better part of valor."

  2. So I had visited in the summer & got the burrito, underwhelmed.

Came back a week ago & had the tostada (yum!) & the pork tacos.

Best tacos I've ever had!!! Wow!!

  3. This is a long time food truck stable of Astoria weekend nights after or during drinks.  Once can always count on them being in front of Rite Aid with their cheap options and fast service.  Consistency is key for a place like this to make drunkards happy.  No matter the weather, they will be there, as will the drunks.

Food options are cheap, fast, and hot.  You can get chicken, spicy chicken, beef tongue, pork, veggies, anything!  Tortas, quesadilas, tacos, nachos, anything!  When you're hungry at 3am, the king is there!

  4. I'm moving to Astoria this Sunday and I'M PSYCHED that I'm going to have this taco truck nearby! I absolutely love this truck. The tacos taste amazing!!! I always get three tacos and it comes out to $9! The fact that this truck is open late is perfect for the "I'm starving" mode after a night out or even just coming back from work. Last time I came here I got back from work/play around 10:30 pm and hadn't had dinner and I was so grateful this truck was open. I bought my three tacos, went to Rite Aid (which is right in front of it) – bought a soda, and I ate at the bench right by the truck – pretty solid ending to my night.

  5. Came all the way from Brooklyn to try this. Needless to say I was starving by the time I ordered. Such a disappointment, the tacos were the worst ones I've ever had. The meat had no flavor and the tortilla were mediocre. I've had better tasting tacos at Taco Bell.

I will come again and try their platter which is supposedly their better dish.

  6. I have a theory that this place's entire business model is dependent on how drunk the crowd is that night. While I enjoy the people who work the truck, the food is completely inconsistent. It's almost as though they know they can phone it in the later it gets. I've had tortas that I've devoured ferociously because they were BOMB AF, but the last two times I've ordered quesadillas or burritos, they've become so soggy and messy during the preparation that I was hardly able to enjoy them. Once my chicken quesadilla was overloaded with hot sauce (and I like hot sauce) to the point where I was unable to eat my food. As I mentioned, the workers are great and the service is fast, but they need to deliver food that is equally enticing on a more regular basis. I like the freshness of the ingredients, I just wish they could put a little more love into the preparation. But WTF am I saying? They are serving a bunch of drunks after all. We'll all be back.

  7. I loooove me some tacos. This is my favorite tacos spot in all of astoria. Very authentic mexican flavor. I've waiting outside in the cold for 10 minutes to get me some tacos. The tostadas are also amazing! My only problem with them is i don't know when they are open, i've gone around 5-6pm several times to pick up dinner and they either weren't there or not open.

  8. YUM. Stopped by for a late night dinner to bring back to my sister's apartment, and ordered a variety: 2 burritos (al pastor and lengua), and an entree of 3 different tacos (pollo, carnitas, bistec). Total amount was just around $20ish…what a deal for a large amount of food. Love the flavor and the small pieces of melted queso fresco. Beware the very spicy hot sauce…I'm a wimp so I could barely handle it in my al pastor burrito and had to down multiple glasses of juice and water. Luckily my sister asked for the tacos without the hot sauce.  I had major food envy for my sister's lengua burrito. Ate so much food that I couldn't really move for the rest of the night…worth it!
