I got their Black Sesame and Green Tea and I have no ragrets. I came in right when they opened, so no line for me. Being a lover of ice cream, Sundaes and Cones is definitely a place I would visit often. Too bad I don't live in NY 🙁 It reminds me of Molly Moons (Seattle-based ice cream store)
Texture wise… it's very creamy. Taste wise… definitely strong. I love both flavors equally and if you're a fan of Green Tea or Black Sesame, you won't regret getting it!
Only complaint: the worker was a little bit mean, but maybe because I came in right when they opened? idk.
An assortment of good flavors, including many unique options, and decent quality hard cream…but Sundaes & Cones is a touch overrated. The lines are often long and mismanaged and prices are a bit high for a scoop or two of pretty standard stuff. That said, I've been on several occasions partly because it's convenient and a nice little shop, and partly because it's hard to find much better or cheaper options in the area. The lavender flavor seems very popular here (based on my visits and social media) and though I've never had it, I have to appreciate its existence. I'm sure I will return as the unbearably hot New York summer presses on, but I will yearn for more affordable and awe-inspiring ice cream of the suburbs.
I'm usually not a fan of sweets but you can small their waffle cones the moment you open the door.
Crap, now I'm hooked. Get their lychee and banana ice cream.
One need not be an ice cream connoisseur to know that this place serves damn good, artisanal ice cream. It was a steamy Sunday afternoon where I was strolling around East Village looking for a quick cool down. I've heard of the ice cream parlor and received countless good reviews so it was my turn to give them a shot. I sure as hell was impressed.
Service: attentive and friendly. It's a group of lads that really know their shit (not your average crummy high school kid working a summer job)
Flavors: I knew i wanted black sesame in a waffle cone, and one of the workers recommended lychee on top.. I was MIND BLOWN. My other friends got chocolate peanut butter, and another got a scoop of butter pecan. They were all diggity damn good.
Price: Pricey. I paid $7.38 for 2 scoops on a waffle cone…that's pretty ridiculous if you ask me. The profit margins at this place are ridiculous.
Lots of interesting flavors to choose from. From corn to black sesame to red velvet to tiramisu (has alcohol).
Recently I opted for the Mocha chip and it was delightful. I got it in chocolate dipped waffle cone with peanuts on the chocolate. Great combination. They also have cakes and shakes, sundaes and cones (hey wait!?).
While I generally aim for spots that offer local and non hormone dairy, this spot is unique and tasty enough to get me to pop in from time to time – regardless.
Check'em out.
Summertime= cooling off with ice cream!
Sundaes and Cones, with its plain jane storefront and use of grays and whites for their logo, provides a rainbow of color through their ice cream selection. Step up to the counter and see the bright green of the pistachio almond ice cream, the reddish orange of the Thai Iced Tea ice cream, and the speckled blackish grey of the sesame ice cream!
I've been a fan of their lychee and sesame flavors, so I tried the Amarena this time (pronounced in my head like "macarena"… is that even right??) The employee told me it was a great juicy fruity flavor and he was right- fruity and mild, and the ice cream was rich and creamy.
They offer three types of cones (sugar/wafer, waffle, and a delux-y looking waffle cone) as well as cakes.
Ok. I love ice cream, its no surprise. This place has been calling my name since I moved into this bustling city about a year ago and I FINALLY MADE IT. I came with a crew of 4 around 730ish on a Tuesday night. There werent too many people in there but they let me try liek 5 flavors so, thanks for feeding into my indecisiveness Sundaes and Cones!
I tried red velvet (too cream cheesy), Tarro (yum but I felt like after 2 licks Id be over it), tiramisu (YUM YUM, could literally taste the alcohol in it, but same feeling as before). Do I be so basic and get cookie dough or cookies n cream? I can't. I wont. Then, this heavenly British woman next to me in a darling accent says, "Hm, no no. How about the strawberry?" STRAWBERRY. YES. I asked for my final sample and was sold. That in a cone with chocolate crunch.
We sat on a bench outside and the line grew exponentially within minutes! Someone passing asked if it was free cone day because there were so many people.
They have crazy flavors like lavendar and corn and then some more general ones but also fun. Great place, nice staff, and they put your cone in a nice holder- presentation for an insta I assumed but who knows. Also- $5 min on cards but I jsut asked him to add a $1 and call it a day… no big
All in all, delic!
I've passed Sundaes and Cones on my way to work countless times, but never actually walked inside. The shop's layout is simple; there isn't anything really fancy about the decor or the way in which ordering works. The different flavors (and there are a lot of them!) are arranged within a bunch of giant freezers, with each container clearly labeled. This straightforward presentation leaves the customer with a single, difficult choice: which flavors to try.
The store was fairly busy when I dropped by on a Sunday afternoon. I paced back and forth past the freezers, unable to decide on samples alone. The wide range of options extends from traditional (vanilla, chocolate, mint chocolate chip, etc.) to Asian-inspired, such as taro, red bean, black sesame, and green tea. They also offer a bunch of fruity sorbets.
I shared three scoops ($6.98) with my boyfriend, and after some deliberation, we ended up with mocha chip, lychee, and Thai tea. The lychee was my favorite; I was expecting something slightly reminiscent of the sweet, fragrant fruit, but was pleasantly surprised when the fresh, strawberry-esque taste of lychee was immediately detected.
Thai tea was also very similar to the real thing, and I liked that it wasn't super sweet. The tea maintained a consistent presence in the ice cream, but wasn't overpowering or excessive. Finally, while I enjoyed the mocha chip, I would have preferred chocolate flakes, as opposed to actual chocolate chips. In my opinion, the whole chips clashed with the smooth texture of the mocha ice cream. I would still recommend it though!
Sundaes and Cones excels when it comes to specialty, unconventional varieties, but even the most common types far surpass your average ice cream shop. There's no doubt I'll be back for more this summer, perhaps as a necessary escape during the workday.
