Huge cavernous space this is the most diverse wide selection of any Duane Reade property in Manhattan! The spaces very well lit check out service is efficient and fast Best drug store ever. The store should be the flagship store
This Duane Reade has a really nice older gentleman that is super sweet and professional. But the store itself is not well kept and their inventory mgt is in the toilet.
I witnessed A lady with bad curly weave decline selling liquor to a Mexican man who was clearly over 40 because his Drivers license was worn out. I felt bad for the guy because you could tell he was a manual labor and he probably kept his license in his back pocket …I would have bought the beer for him but I didn't have my wallet on me.
The staff is a bit rough around the edges…but if you see and an elderly black man at the register, show him kindness because he serves you with dignity and also allow preserve yours. I went in their one day when I had a hard day and I felt like he was sensitive enough to do his job and not frustrate me while i was emotionally charged yet silent.
This location is somewhat small and customer service is non-existent with nasty, bitter and rude staff to intimidate clients away from patronizing this location. I agree with the stinky hours of operation as well as lack thereof handicapped assessibility. Blah!
This is one of the worse Duane Reades I've ever been to – not just Duane Reade, but probably one of the worse drugstores in general.
I prefer to go to this Duane Reade due to its proximity to my work place (it's in the same building), but oftentimes I find myself going out of my way to find a Duane Reade a few blocks away because this one just sucks.
I often go here to buy milk for my office, but they are often out of stock, and sometimes whenever they do have them in stock, they've expired, and yet they still leave them in the fridge. You would think that a huge chain such as Duane Reade would have an advanced system of tracking the purchase history of specific items at all of their specific stores to be able to restock quickly and/or purchase a reasonable amount of a particular item to meet the demand.
The pharmacy here is even worse. Again, I chose to go to this Duane Reade for my prescriptions as well because it's very convenient in terms of location, but almost every time I go there, there is only one staff member working there, which is the pharmacist. She has to act as the pharmacist, technician, and cashier because she is the only on there.
So consequently I often have to wait on line, and checkouts in pharmacy counters in general tend to take longer than the front cashiers because customers often ask the pharmacist questions. Sometimes the pharmacist is often in the back filling prescriptions so you have to scream for her because she never looks up and there's no one at the pharmacy counter.
I really don't see why that has to be the case; I'm sure Duane Reade can easily hire at least one full-time cashier to staff at least the register at the pharmacy, and I'm sure at least once technician there would help a lot.
The staff here are generally nice – they often greet me as I enter the store – and the checkout at the front registers are often quick, but overall I definitely wouldn't recommend this Duane Reade. There are quite a few Duane Reades in close proximity of each other in the Financial District, so it's probably better to just walk a couple of blocks for a bigger, better-stocked, and more efficient store.
This Duane Reade also closes at 7pm, and is not open on Saturday or Sunday, so if this Duane Reade wasn't in my work building, I definitely wouldn't want to fill my prescriptions here.
The pharmacists here are amazing! I've never had pharmacist go out of their way for you. I could pay less with my insurance mail-in plan but I keep my scripts here because of the pharmacist. They take the time to explain things and make sure you have what you need.
I just went in here and in addition to my purchase got $20 cash back. Walking out the door I realized that the cashier forgot to give me the cash so went back. She immediately realized she hadn't given it to me and did so. The manager then says to her, "are you sure you didn't give it to her?" – essentially accusing me of stealing!! The cashier responds, 'yes, i remember just shutting the register and giving her her receipt". The manager proceeds to stare at me all the way out the door. Rude manager!!
First off let me just say that I worked in customer service at a gym for a few yrs and every day I was challenged by people with really nasty attitudes HOWEVER I always kept a smile on my face and acknowledged them while speaking in a pleasant tone. I was always aware that there was a chance we would get secret shopped and just because I was unhappy with my job at that point in my life I didn't make the customers pay for it by being rude.
That brings me to today when I stopped in this Duane Reade just before 9am and asked an African American woman working the floor wearing all black about verifying the price of a blow dryer. I had a mini blowdryer and an ultra-mini blowdryer, by the same brand-both costing 24.99 which I felt was an error. I asked the woman about the price, and her response was "I don't know" to which she proceeded to continue talking to her coworker as if I was invisible. I put both the blowdryers back on the shelf and walked out. I will not be returning.
Pharmacist Iryna (sorry, I don't remember her last name), is great. Not only she's very organized and makes it super fast when I decide to wait for my prescription/pickup to be ready, but also she seems to have a nice personality (which is rare in NYC pharmacies), and it's easy to talk to her and/or ask for her med.advice.
