  1. Me, the hubby and a dear old friend were trolling the Lower East Side for a dessert spot. The hubby remembered that Morgenstern's  Finest Ice Cream from the food show "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" was close by so we decided to pay them a visit.

There was a line half way down the block and it was 90+ degrees outside on a Saturday night, so the choice of what to do was obvious. We got on line and waited.

It took us about 30 minutes to get to the counter to place our order. They limit the number of people in the shop because it is very small. A caveat to that is that people stay after they have received their order so there is a line outside, people standing in front of the counter eating ice cream and no one being served at the counter and no ice cream being prepared. This doesn't make much sense, but okay.

    We had:

    – Raw Milk, Burnt Honey with condensed milk – hubby loved!

    – Chocolate Malt, Coconut Related with sesame caramel – delicious, especially the sesame caramel!

    – Green Tea Pistachio, with sesame caramel – friend loved!

Morgenstern's has very unique flavors with original toppings. One flavor ice cream was jet black! Didn't look good but people were raving about it!

They need to get the counter situation under control, but I would definitely come back.

  2. Overpriced, overhyped and very slow service. Came here one afternoon after having lunch in the area. They have a lot of interesting flavors, I'll give them that. I ended up ordering the smooth strawberry and the coconut ash. It look about 10 minutes to get my ice cream after ordering. Though there was no wait to order, there was a long queue to get your ice cream. There was only one person scooping the ice cream and he was very, very slow. I think the employees brought in their kids to work because they looked very young.

Anyway, smooth strawberry was delicious. You get a lot of strawberry in one scoop. Coconut ash was interesting. I don't think I'd ever get it again. It tasted like vanilla with a hint of coconut, but there was another flavor I couldn't pin point.

Not sure I'll come here again. It was a long wait and it wasn't really worth the money I spent. I'm glad I got to try it though. It's been on my list for a while!

  3. Came here with a friend who recommended it on a Thursday night, we got here around 7pm and didn't get our ice cream until 7:45 because there was a line from inside to outside, now I know this is a popular ice cream spot but I from what I could see the line was so long because there is only one register, you'll have one person taking your order and giving out samples if you want to try a certain flavor while the other 2 wait for the order to come so they can prep the orders, I'm no expert but there has to be a better way to do this, maybe they want the long line out there the represent how popular this place is, as we sat to eat our Ice cream we saw the line grow longer and longer, anyway the ice cream itself is really good, there are a lot of unique flavors to try here, I went for the bourbon vanilla and rum raisin vanilla in a cup while my friend had buttermilk and chocolate nib, we both enjoyed our ice cream, but I wouldn't come back to wait in line for it because to me it wasn't that special, I ended up giving 3 stars because while the ice cream is good the whole experience of having to wait in such a long line simply because there aren't enough registers takes away from the experience for me

  4. I think I never ever had ice creams THAT tasty in my life!!
We took three scoops, dark chocolate, mint and chocolate chips, and matcha pistachio.

They were all awesome. The dark chocolate was great, the mint and chocolate chips felt just like biting in a bouquet of mint leaves and the matcha was awesome too (the combo with the pistachio is just genius!!)

I also had a chance to taste the sweet potato one and the sunflower seeds, they were all awesome and super tasty, not sure I would eat a whole scoop (especially when you see the size of these scoops!) but for people who really enjoy these flavor, definitely go for it!

You may want to be patient to get your ice tho, the service is super slow and the place is crowded

  5. Ordered two ice cream cakes and they were both great. $65 each for a cake.

They are available to order online.

::Strawberry Vanilla Ice Cream Cake – My favorite out of the two. The strawberry flavor was great. The flavor sort of reminded me a bit of Meiji's Strawberry Yan Yan dips. 4 STARS

::Green Tea Pistachio Chocolate Cake – This one was good. I liked the tiny pistachio pieces in the cake. It had chocolate sprinkles as well which helped add to the crunchy texture. 3.5 STARS

I liked that there was some sponge cake in between all the different layers of ice cream. It's great for separation of the flavors and it tastes good too.

  6. The ice cream is good, but the service is a bit slow for the volume they handle.  When we arrived, we waited for 20 minutes in a line of about 25 people to get ice cream.  I mean, thy aren't making cheese burgers… It's ice cream!

Aside from the wait, they are very much a clean place to enjoy a sweet treat.  As I was watching them prepare several people's ice cream, they would wipe the counter at least twice behind each order.  I was impressed.

They have a novel approach of putting the toppings inside the bucket of ice cream and then rolling them inside of the scoop so that there aren't any loose topping to fall out of your container of choice while eating.

They have VERY limited inside space to hang out.  And, they DO accept credit cards regardless of what Yelp says.

Awesome place to enjoy some fantastic ice cream.  I will most definitely be back.

  7. Very slow service. Only 5 people in the store and I waited about 10 minutes.

Watch for black lips if you get the Coconut Ash! (I clearly didn't)

Deliciously subtle flavors, and not overly sweetened. Grab a cone and head across the street to the beautiful flower shop (Green Fingers Market) for some eye candy next!

  8. ORDER THE GREEN TEA PISTACHIO. I thought it was a nice touch that they add a generous amount of pistachios in the green tea ice cream then mash it all together (kind of like cold stone!)

Granted I waited 20 min for it, I unfortunately have to say it was worth it.

    Would be back
