  1. Trader Joe's, the epitome of what good groceries should cost. Trader Joe's, the ideal way a food store should be set up. Trader Joe's, the best place to buy good-for-the-body groceries on the night-time-tip in the city.

Though the lines sometimes get ridiculously long; as in wrap around the entire store long, they move rather quickly. This is mainly due to the "line directors." And this particular location directs the lines oh so well.

There is a wide variety of items to choose from, from fresh produce to healthy snacks. Again, all at reasonable prices.

Lastly, this location is in an easy to reach area if you like going to the city and walking through crowds and that sort of thing.

  2. I never thought I would write a review for a grocery store, but lo and behold here I am writing a review for my SECOND grocery store.

I am a little emotional as I write this (which is why I think I felt the need to do this) because I have t-minus 20 days left in my current apartment, and will be moving far away from this location come next month *sigh*. This was a 5 minute walk from my apartment for the past year, and I am so sad that I will be a few subway stops away – that doesn't mean I won't be going still, though! It is seriously worth the trip and the utter madness that is the weaving line throughout the store.

The line is definitely intimidating, and it's not the best. But really here's what you have to do: figure out what stuff is not in the line (cheese (mmm), milk, yogurt, chips, hummus, frozen food, canned food), and then you can pretty much just wait in line and pick stuff up as you wind around the rest of the aisles. Once you get this down, it's really not bad.

This one is also 1000 times better than the union square location. Much better organized, and the line always moves quicker.

They also are ALL about the pumpkin – WOW. In October, there was legitimately pumpkin flavored everything you could think of (yogurt, ice cream, bread, chips, cheese, cereal, etc.). . . and then this year they decided to start becoming ALL about the mango (even more WOW!). I went to the store to get a few things for a salad and came back with 5 different mango things (oatmeal, ice cream, bars, flat bread, and yogurt to be precise . . . I guess I didn't get any ACTUAL mango oopz).

I get twice as much here as I do at other grocery stores for the price, and it's really great sizes for someone cooking just for them self.

Trader Joes – it's not goodbye, it's see you later.

  3. To say that I LOVEEEE TJ's is an understatement. That being said this location isn't my favorite in the city (I would argue that the UWS location is the best, though this one is good too). It's a large, one-floor lay out. The one thing I don't like about this location is how the aisles are set up in the middle, which makes for congestion.

Nevertheless, all the other great things to love about TJ's still holds true – great selection, low prices!

  4. I never think to review places that aren't restaurants but this place deserves it.
This is the best Manhattan TJs I've been to. The people are VERY friendly, they're rarely out of anything, and the cashiers and restockers move quickly and efficiently. This place just works. Even when the line looks long it never takes longer than 10-15 mins.

Not to mention, like all trader joes, the food is absolutely awesome and the prices are unbeatable. This location just adds a friendly element and is clearly well run.

  5. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT turn away because of the long lines.  I usually go to the Brooklyn Trader Joes, but was in Chelsea and decided to grab a few things.   Then I saw the line!!!  It literally started at the front door and went around the WHOLE STORE.   I was going to leave, but someone said the line moves REALLY quickly so I went and grabbed what I needed and got on line.
They are very organized.  They have someone at the back of the line with a pole that says "end of line", then someone standing at the middle of the line (so nobody can cut—and let me tell you, if you cut, you will be yelled at by other customers in line—holy crap–btw..this happens in all Trader Joe's that I've been at).  The line DID move quickly.  I waited for 7 minutes total—I thought it would have been an hour or two.  Amazing.

This store is also REALLY big compared to other TJ's I've been to. The people working there are very helpful, nice and friendly too!  Great food, great prices and great finds.   LOVE Trader Joe's!

  6. It finally happened. After about half a decade of shopping at Trader Joe's, I've finally interacted with an unenthusiastic employee. But wait, aaaaaaaall of them were unenthusiastic. I dunno if it was because it was the end of their shift or some sort of bureaucracy issue but I'll be damned if I'm given a snare for my bag choices. Paper bags actually emit more carbon when made than plastic, so HA!

Anyways, besides the cashier, the guy who said "I dunno, over there", and the girl who semi-snapped "what's your question?", the only thing I have to report is that I couldn't find any mole.

Not that they should have it… just if anyone was wondering.

  7. WTF @NY Trader Joes
Many item were out of stock and there were just way too many people in this tiny space. Is this a fire hazard? Why aren't there more in the city??? Please assist.

I hate crowds so it was very difficult to shop here but I thought the people working were very efficient and friendly for being New Yorkers. Thanks,

  8. NYC is expensive, it's no secret, and that extends to groceries in a big way.  This TJ's is not only stocked with beautiful, fresh produce, but it's all fantastically priced.  From peaches (ripe ones) to bell peppers (priced cheaper than back in Kentucky!), you can afford healthy options.  Additionally, their meats are fresh and organic, and they are loaded with international spices, pastes, and dinner kits.  This location is packed to the gills, but it didn't feel too cramped or overwhelming.  I found lentils, produce, cold brew concentrate (yesssss!!), cheap beer, and dairy for all under $25.  The line for the cashier bay was crazy long, but due to a smooth checkout system and very nice cashiers, I want through the line in about 8-10 minutes.  Yes, there's a subway stop nearby, and yes, they'll package your groceries based on whether you're walking or nearby. For this tourist, that was a huge deal for me.
