The chicken and rice here was ok but nowhere close to how good the usual halal carts I eat from are!The white sauce and hot sauce were decent but nothing Ill go back for.I am not sure whether I went at a time when they were running out of chicken but the portions were pretty small.Maybe because I didnt add any extra toppings, the entire chicken and rice and lettuce took up only about half my box.Ofcourse,it seems good enough to have a bite if you are close by but I am definitely not going back just for this.
This place isn't much like the infamous Halal Guys but it's good in its own right. Prices are just about the same as most halal carts and they have the sauces you'd want (hot, BBQ, and white). They pile on the meat and are generous with sauce.
One thing I like about this place is the assortment of vegetables they have including olives and corn. Definitely different from other carts in that regard.
I'd definitely give this cart a shot. The one by FIT is convenient and has lots of steps nearby to sit.
I look for Rafiqi's Food cart on the corner of 26th & 7th when I'm desiring a flavorful food experience without any true nutritional value or when I'm really low on $$$.
I've had "chicken & rice" before and I do agree, theirs is better than this cart, but I'm not trekking 30 streets over for a meal when I have one around the corner from me. And I digress … large container packed with meat, food, veggies and rice. I generally get their chicken gyro over rice – SO good. I get a little bit of all their veggie options (this part they get stingy on) – tomato, lettuce, chick peas, olives, red onions, green peppers .
My friend always says that I'm "taking a chance" with these carts and I do have to say that I do agree. My last meal there really did a number on my stomach so I have to warn the sensitive stomachs out there.
Good food. The guys inside the cart were friendly, making sure we had our items customized as much as we wanted.
While the portions were huge and it's definitely the best value in the area, it was annoying that when we went to pay we were asked for more because "prices recently went up but we just haven't changed the sign yet"
In recent years, there has been an abundance of Halal carts popping up (presumably after the success of the infamous 53rd and 6th cart). Nowadays, you're likely to find just as many carts serving middle eastern fare as you would hot dog stands.
As with any type of food vendor, there will be good carts and bad carts. Rafiqi's is one of the good ones.
I had the chicken and rice. Chicken was tender and the rice had a lot of flavor. White sauce was also delicious.
Price was right, too. About $6 for a decent sized platter.
Tasty!
I saw a line and decided it couldn't be too bad (as with most lines for food in NY), and gave the chicken gyro over rice a try. Along with your rice, you can get a small dab of corn, tomato, onion, olives, and since the guy in front of me asked for cooked onions and the guy threw a bunch over the grill, I also benefited from his request and got some as well. Well seasoned – versus the sauce with the halal guys, Rafiqi seasons their meat and despite the oil (and oil, and lots of oil… let's not calorie count), it's super tasty!
Will be back…
