Whole Foods Market
“Seriously, even seemingly off-peak times at the Union Square and Columbus Circle locations are painfully busy and test my claustrophobia.”
“Aside from the artisan cheeses, beer room and the free samples (last time I went it was wine ice cream, yum!)”
“It can get a big crowded during the after-work rush, but it usually is far less stressful than the Chelsea or Columbus Circle locations.”

The prepared food here actually sucks. Not sure why everyone loves this place so much. I eat healthy and the "healthy" options here are just not really that healthy. Usually slam full of sodium and grease. I've tried every section of this place and it was all super wack. It takes forever to get a salad, as the entitled, bitter, slow-moving staff show zero sense of urgency for the customer, the cashiers are slow, the food service departments do not go out of their way to serve the customer. They usually look at me with an indifferent frown as I approach. This is the sort of place where the staff is doing you a favor by helping, and clearly enjoy saying "no." The jamba juice upstairs will not give you a free plastic cup and sends you on a wild goose chase to find one elsewhere despite the fact that they are there (which happens with any item you may need anywhere in this establishment – it will be right in front of the person and they say no and send you elsewhere), the barbecue place is sort of gross and takes forever (to put food on a tray takes them forever, yes), the breakfast place is made slowly with no love, the line system is slow and annoying. It opens at 8 am, which eliminates the possibility of using this place for a breakfast for most people that like to get to work early. And it closes at 11, thus eliminating itself from the market of those who work late. In other words, I barely see this place even open. All the staff have an attitude. The two stars is for the quality of grocery items, which is good. Oh and what's with them serving the same indian and moroccan food every day for the last year at the buffet? Isn't there a possibility that someone may want variety at the buffet bar such as something normal like chicken? And not the greasy "moroccan" gross chicken they always have
Whole foods will take your whole paycheck, so do your research before you shop. I have never bought vegetables or fruits at whole foods because I get a better deal on organic vegetables and fruits at Mr. Pina in Williamsburg. So what do I get from whole foods mostly my meats, chicken and 365 frozen goods only if there's a sale.
I'm also a fan of whole foods prepared meals. OMG they have some awesome chefs. I have tried the sushi, salad by the pound, prepared hot food and my fave the carving station. Yup I'm lazy, but I get ideas on what to cook from whole foods. plus it taste so dam good!
We stopped here to get some of their yummy coffee to eat with our bagels! They had a great upstairs area to sit in. The bathroom though needed a code to get into it, which was a little bit frustrating but understandable. My boyfriend did state though that there were no doors in the men's bathroom. Downstairs looked like all the other WF in Portland, so that was fine. Checkout was easy as well. IT was nice to have a WF there when we needed it and really appreciated it! Thank you!
This is my local Wholefoods. I go here every weekend to shop for fruits, cereal, chips, cookies, bread and juices. I always wanted Wholefoods to have a mobile app. Now they finally have a Wholefoods apps with coupons and weekly deals. This week is buy $15 worth of veggies or fruits and get $5 off. Best deal ever to stock up on my favorite fruits. The app was easy to use. Just open the app and show the cashier the barcode. The coupon automatically applies to the order. This store always have yummy samples and it's clean. Wholefoods are more expensive than trader joes but because of the varieties of organic and non GMO products. You get what you pay for.
without a doubt, my favorite whole foods location. it never feels cramped, shelves are usually stocked, lines are usually manageable, good hot food/prepared eats AND a beautiful seating area upstairs with wifi. perfect place to grab a casual, relaxed lunch with a pal or catch up on studies.
best of all (for all you brooklynites), F subway is right outside!
This is my favorite whole foods in the city because it is least busy (at least vs union square), good store layout, and large dining area upstairs. Also it is literally right next to the 2nd Ave F train stop.
The lines here can get busy but it's not crazy like other locations. The store layout is solid with a nice flow entering from veggies/fruits to the rest of the store where you don't feel like you miss anything. I've used customer service before for refunds and no issues.
The dining area upstairs is large with many choices including Vietnamese, BBQ, salad. One negative is that it is busy upstairs especially with loiterers, students and semi-homeless people. It is a large and nice space.
Remember to check out the body goods selection upstairs and beer store near the express exit.
Great whole foods market at the L.E.S everything looks fresh and well organized. The cashiers can be a bit rude tho.
This place brings out the worst in me. Between this joint and DR, I never seem to walk out without spending at least $50. And that is usually when I tell myself I'm going in "just" for milk and condoms.
Why do I think I'm going to be the next Top Chef winner? I mean, do I really need monk fish, a jar of caraway seeds and lemon grass just because it's on sale and I think I can concoct something that will give Anthony Bourdain a foodboner? No. I can't and at least 2/3 of stuff I buy here sits in the, "wtf did I buy this for" section of my pantry.
I'm addicted to window shopping in the meat and fish sections. Here, dreams of culinary conquest to the highest degree that's never been seen, let alone tasted by man, run through my head. I must waste, on average, two to three hours of my life pacing this area a week, easily. If you see me, with my headphones on and that stupid look of a kid in a candy shop on my face, please kick me in the throat. I'm serious. You have my permission.
The spice aisle is another gem of black hole. In this aisle of fantasy, I have bought spices that not only I can't pronounce, but I have no idea how to use. Screw it, it looks great on my hall of fame spice rack though.
The staff, for NY anyway, is relatively attitude free and helpful when needed.
I buy most of my food for the week here. It's an easy trek from work. I trust their brands. i trust the local items. I trust that what they buy is of the highest quality and sure, I might spend too much here, but I'm trying to be more aware of what I put in my body. After poisoning it with a few black out nights during the week to take the edge off, the very least I can do to win my liver's love back is with high quality food. Btw, the roast chicken in the pre-made section is a steal of a deal, Mary. The latin (like my women) chicken is the go-to bird choice for your boi.
The second floor has a restroom, but you'll need an access code via your receipt. Or, just wait till someone comes out and go in. Take that corporate shmucks! There's free wifi, a BBQ joint and plenty of seating up there to take a break from the heat and write reviews for Yelp, because you think you are the next Action Bronson/ Eddie Huang, when really, you're just a dork with laptop and a dream. A very… wet dream.
