Bucket & Bay Craft Gelato

“The black label vanilla is to die for (especially in their homemade cones) and the Bulleit caramel…equally delicious and boozy.”

“Second visit:
Second time around I tried the Mint Chip, Shavasana (Lavender Blueberry), Rose Latte, and Peach Bourbon.”

“Also tried the purple sticky rice (very soft flavor, almost like taro root?), the red eye (omg yum city), and mint chip (yup- also delicious).”

  1. came for their 1 year celebration this past sunday. Had no idea that they were connected to a brewery but what a fantastic combo!

My BF and i both got the regular size (2 flavors) in a cone. Note that cones cost extra but they are really delicious. They are handmade and taste like cinnamon sugar cookies. Being the alcoholic that i am, i got the Dark and Stormy adnt he black label vanilla. Both were delicious, the dark and stormy had a slight ginger taste just like the actual rum-based cocktail, but the vanilla was my favorite.
My BF got the mint chip and chocolate, they were good as well. Total came to a little more than $14 for both. Kinda pricey but pretty tasty experience, so i'm happy.

  2. Wow!! The best chocolate (deep dark chocolate) gelato I have ever had. Truly deeeep chocolate…taste buds seem to be triggered for 20 seconds per taste.
The rose latte is also perfect. Subtle rose without being too strong like perfume and a balanced fresh milk flavor. So delicious. Finally the purple sticky rice is out of this world.

  3. Delicious! Bucket & Bay is located just around the corner from my future apartment so I have a feeling I will be a regular here.  I opted for the Shavasana and Dark & Stormy while my mom tried the D&S + the Purple Sticky Rice.  Yum yum yum…we thoroughly enjoyed all 3 flavors.  Friendly service and a cute little chop.  I'm also excited to try their brunch on weekends in the future.

  4. Wow! I was very excited by this place and it did not disappoint! No wonder it has SO many great reviews. This place has perfected gelato.

I tried two flavors, Rose Latte and Purple Sticy Rice (sic…that's how it's spelled on the site. I think they meant Sticky) because I wasn't even sure what those things were as flavors. They both tasted good, but I opted for the PSR with a scoop of deep dark chocolate. I thought RL and PSR were different but kind of close so I didn't know if they'd go well together. The chocolate was good, but I think I should have just stuck with the unusual flavors because the chocolate wasn't really needed.

There is a small sitting area and even some seating outside. I don't know if this is the easiest place to get to, but that's JC for you. If you can get here, I think it's worth the voyage. The employees were happy to get me samples and I was really intrigued by the unusual ones and so glad I did! Now I wish I could get my sticky rice fix other place, but this place is unique and will keep so many coming back for more.

  5. Long story short: the gelato here is made with love, and the flavors are incredible.  A little pricey, but worth it.
Their pints are sold in adorable glass mason jars and can be picked out from the little freezer on the counter or packed for you to order (call in advance so they can scoop your gelato and put it in the deep freezer so it's cold enough to survive transportation intact).
The amount of work they put into the gelato is apparent in the flavor eat spoonful has.  One of my absolute favorites is their Dark and Stormy.  It's gingery with just enough booze for a little kick.  Perfectly balanced; sweet and smooth.
The coconut gelato is also so true to the flavor of toasted coconut, it blows my mind a little.
The shop is beautiful and would be a great place to come with friends (it's large enough for a group to gather) or even for a date.

  6. Came here once with my sister and I couldn't stay away!

My favorite flavor is the thai sticky rice – it is such a strange and unique flavor that's also quite mild. It is definitely my go-to flavor. I convinced the boyfriend to try it and he ended up choosing it as one of his scoops.

Today, I went with thai sticky rice (again!) and blueberry lavender! Surprisingly, the blueberry lavender wasn't overwhelmingly floral, which i truly dislike. It was a perfect balance of blueberry with a hint of lavender – and keep in mind that I'm not usually into herb-y or floral flavors in my desserts.

I got my scoops in a cup with a cone on top – the cones are delicious and sugary, but I couldn't trust myself to each my ice cream fast enough before the cone gave in. Ha!

  7. This is indeed a local gem… when you see people walk around at night to this place just for ice-cream/gelato, and there's still a line out the door at 9pm… you KNOW it's good… they have interesting flavor (like purple sticky rice)… if you are the simple ice-cream guy… you might be disappointed b/c I don't think they have your normal chocolate strawberry flavors… they have small games for kids (and adults alike) outside, a swing seat where you can sit and enjoy the night breeze while chowing down that ice-cream/gelato… what can beat that???

  8. This is excellent gelato, a high quality product, nicely designed place, helpful service, and a rare place with alcohol infused flavors. Free samples abound. Tonight, the offerings included two of my all time favorite drinks, but in the form of gelato. Yum. The pisco sour was awesome, light and citrusy with an eye drop of bitters on top to make it official. The dark and stormy was my favorite, perfectly flavored – like the real drink – and sweet, but not cloyingly so. Another favorite is the Black Label vanilla, quite good, rich and with good flavor. This place is a total winner and only a five minute walk from Grove Street Station.
