Bingbox Snow Cream

“I absolutely love the texture, as it's less waxy than Snowdays and the matcha flavor really came through.”

“I prefer for my matcha flavored foods to be more on the sweet side so I wish the matcha bing had been more sweet but it was good nonetheless.”

“The sesame powder was unique– it's not too sweet and the toasted black sesame flavor was fresh.”

  1. I'm a sucker for unusual Asian desserts so this place was right up my alley. For seven dollars (or more depending on number of toppings) you can choose one of their pre-designed boxes or create your own.

I went with matcha – the green tea shaved ice was so wonderful and refreshing. It's a huge amount but tastes very light. It was topped with green tea sauce, condensed milk, red beans, mochi and aloe jelly (additional 50 cents). I absolutely loved the flavors of the sweet toppings mixed with the ice.

So perfect for a hot summer day! Highly recommend.

  2. Awesome bingbox hype satisfied!

Jessica (best staff) made my sesame bingbox and made it aesthetically god-like. The luxurious melt of shaved ice gives a breeze of chills to my tastebuds ever scoop. They have a one-of-a-kind snow shaving machine and it just really gives a UNIQUE shaving compared to your local cafe shaved ices.

Sesame Bingbox comes with a condensed-milk coated bingbox with shaved ice curated right in the center and topped with sesame powder, almonds, red beans, and mochi except I had mines swapped for strawberries.

You also get a sweet waffle cracker in the center.

    7$ FLAT. amazing!

  3. This isn't exactly Bingsu as I'm familiar with it, but it was still really good. Prices are a bit steep in general, but they give you a large portion to compensate.  Price aside though, this is definitely worth a trip to taste as it was super delicious! I got the weekly special of the lychee shaved ice. The first two toppings are free, so I got it with rainbow jelly and mochi.  It also comes with a drizzle, so I got the standard condensed milk drizzle.  And then it came with a waffle.

If you look at any picture, you'll find that these are really well created and it tastes as good as it looks.  It was a bit odd that the ice tasted dry as you ate it, but I think it's because of how fine the ice was.  For my lychee shaved ice in particular, I found that every bite of ice had some flavor in it, so I had no patches of unflavored ice in any of my box.  As far as topping goes, I like mochi, but I found that the rainbow jelly worked really well with the ice.  It was a nice texture contrast and wasn't overly sweet as to mask the flavor of the lychee ice.

My only gripe would be is that the seating is a bit sparse.  But given that this is in NYC, it's really hard to complain about that.

Overall, 5 stars – if I lived in the area, I would probably visit often… too often.

  4. Another one! This shaved ice store claims to be Korean-styled bingsoo. The shaved ice does seem to be fluffier and lighter than Snowdays. The toppings are a bit limited for my taste..they have a few preset dishes which are kind of a "better value" because you get the wafer cookie thing. But IMO, I'd rather choose my toppings and the wafer doesn't taste very good. We ended up not eating your wafers after one bite.

So…we got the mango and matcha preset. While the ice is awesomely fluffy….it's just ice and has no flavor. It relies heavily on the drizzle they put on the bottom and around the container for flavor. Also, the containers are small than the usually frozen yogurt or Snowdays containers that we see, BUT, they do fill it to the brim. I kind of wish they didn't…because it makes eating the bingbox very messy.

Not sure if I'd comeback..it's just okay.

  5. Great little spot serving shaved ice of countless flavors with a ridiculous assortment of toppings. Get one of their menu items or make your own…  you can't go wrong.

Had the chocolate with Oreos and gummy bears. Delicious!! Strawberry and Lychee were also great.

Not a big place, only a few tables, but a cool ambiance and friendly staff. Place your order, find a seat and they'll let you know when it's ready.

    Definitely worth a trip.

  6. Asian frozen desserts slowly taking over East Village.

Snowdays is a common place in my friend circles, and I like to think they started the Asian frozen treats trend in the city. Bingbox is a take on the Korean popbingsu, a shaved snow dessert with various toppings. Their menu consists of six pre made "sundaes," as well as a DIY section. I went for a classic green tea matcha snow with strawberries and mochi.

I absolutely love the texture, as it's less waxy than Snowdays and the matcha flavor really came through. The portion for the price was also more than fair. The ice-making process is also interesting. Instead of shaving the ice from a giant block, the crew was using liquid bases and freezing them to order. I guess that means it's fresh?

I think my future decisions will be swayed by the people I'm hanging out with, but I'm glad to know Bingbox is a viable option now.

  7. I was drawn here by the pretty pictures! For $7 per cup, this is a very massive dessert and can definitely be shared between 2 people.

I ended up ordering the mango shaved ice with condensed milk and mochi. Aesthetics-wise, it definitely did live up to the hype but flavoring-wise, I think it tasted just okay. It was more icy than creamy, the latter of which I prefer more thanks to Grace Street in Ktown. I had to do a fair bit of mixing before I could taste much flavor on the ice.

  8. Fun shaved ice shop in east village.

Walking in, there are 3 tables for four on the right. As you walk past them and through the crowd you'll reach the counter where you order and watch the magic happen. You can see the "snow" making machine beyond the counter and watch the snow fall with your choice of flavor. They bring it to the counter where you can watch them assemble your creation.

We got a matcha and a taro one ($7 each). You could really taste the flavor in the matcha one but the taro was lacking, tasting a little light.

Compare to Snowdays, it's not as light and fluffly, but compared to Grace Street it's not as dense. So you get something in-between.

We came around 8pm on a Saturday night and it was pretty packed, we had to wait a while with our snow cream before we could sit.
